Have been running Schaeffers semi-syn., 5-30 in a 95 Toyota 4-Runner 92K, and also in a 95 Escort with 192K. Both engines are clean and quiet. Tried 5-30 Mobil 1 but had some slight upper valve area sounds in the Escort so went back to Schaeffers and the sounds went immediately away.

Seems like Schaeffers also offers a full synthetic now but have not tried it and am going to continue with the semi-syn.

I think Schaeffer has two 5W-30 oils, their all-petroleum #100 and their synthetic blend #701. The 701 is good for at least 10,000 miles in any decent engine, as determined by oil analysis. Your Taco will run just about forever on the #701. You can always use the #703 10W-30 if you choose, unless you are in the mountains in winter.

Does Schaeffers make different 5W30 motor oils? i beleave they make two different ones. Which 5W30 would work best in a 2002 Tacoma V6? My truck seems to like the thicker 30w oils since i dont get any valve noise unlike the thinner 30W's ive used. Also i want to make sure that it keeps the internals of my engine clean. Thanks.

Ive been wasting money on amsoil series 3K with the entention on going six month changes regardless of milage (less than 10K) because that to me is the safest with conformation of a UOA. I never like to push oils to their max and for the price of Schaeffers you cant beat it. Do they make a full synthetic? I can get two cases of Schaeffers for the price of on case of Amsoil Series 3K.

Look up the 9000

The Amsoil XL line gives excellent UOA. You can go with a 6 month OCI and have excellent results.

That maybe another option to consider.

I did not see any 9000 series at their schaefersoils website after clicking on "Prodcut Line" ... then the "Motor Oils" link there. Perhaps that's the "Micron Moly" series.... I dunno.

I have been using the semi-syn series 7000 in all my vehicles for at least two years now. I like it and plan to continue using. No UOAs but the engines seem to run quiet, stay clean inside, get good gas mileage and the oil looks great when I dump it after running a year. Not scientific, just call me "the anecdotal goat"

Tones,

Do you know if #9000 can be used in gasoline engines? I really dig the the HDEO's but im going to conform with a uoa just to make sure. The engine runs quieter and the fuel milage hasnt decreased nor increased because of the extra thickness.

^ It's "all Fleet"CI4+, SL. The 3.4 V6 was desinged for SJ motor oils. I recall my maual allowed for the use of SJ oils when the ISLAC approved oils could not be "found" ( I take that as implicit approval for remote locations , but to be it looks like a wink) . With the cam lobe to bucket interface of the engines valvetrain you could do no better than a HDEO.

Yes the 9000 can be run in a gasoline fueled engine ,,,,the proper viscosity would be 5w-30 7000 semi.,in most apps,,,,BL

Cool i need to make sure that the amsoil series 3K is rated for my engine, i should of thought of that when threw the stuff in. Cool it is rated for my engine.

Bryan,
SJ "Energy Conservaing", SL "Energy Conservaing" or ILSAC mulitgrage engine oil is recommended. It looks like you can use either one.

Just got off the phone with Schaeffer and was informed in 3-4 month they will have a full line of full synthetic oil. 5W-20 & 5W-30.

TRDUSA,
In your climate(Warm year round I assume)I would go with 5-40 all year.
I have 1/2 qt of 5/30;10/30 (and will have some 15/40) and one more change of 15/40 before I break into the 5/40.
I will use this grade to end any leftovers or having the wrong grade when the weather here gets unecxpcetedly cold.
I also have an insane amount of other oils for the rest of the fleet. But that goes with being on BITOG!
Good luck.
