I always seem to have problems with JVC products, and have disposed of a couple of VCR's after only a year or so (you think I'd learn after the first one). I do like Panasonic though. I have several Panasonic items, from a microwave to an electric shaver, and like them all.

I don't have experience with televisions in either brand. I do like Toshibas though-I have 2-32 inch Toshibas that are great.

Panasonic electric shavers (especially the Wet/Dry ones) rock.....but dang man, they are extremely hard to find. I just had to mail order one from AFEES!

I definitely like Panasonic!

ok....so far it's:
JVC: 0
Panasonic: 2

Please keep your votes coming in...I really might decide which one accrding to this "poll".
I like both of them equally(JVC design looks cooler, and has 16:9 compression; Panasonic doesn't)

I have a Panasonic 32" (regular) TV. It's great.
What I notice is it's great sound. My friend has a JVC 32". It is also great. I like my Panasonic because I didn't have to get home theatre to get great sound.

a couple of years ago JVC was rated 3rd highest in quailty by consumer reports.. i neverhad a problem with anything jvc.. i still have a jvc cassette desk from 1991 that works....

a tie

Panasonic (Matsu****a) can have some good stuff. I like the fact that in the good old American way own lots of their own components (capacitors and stuff)

But I did have a JVC VHS unit (my first ever) that lasted longer than dirt.

I have a fairly thick beard, and I have torn up the screens on other shavers. But the Panasonic is about 3 years old now and still cuts like it did when new.

I have owned quite a few JVC products, including a very expensive projector (SX-21). All have been very durable, and have performed well. The only complaint I have is that a few of the products have suffered from what I call "quircks" - most likely software bugs. As an example, my stereo receiver can power two seperate rooms, both with seperate sources (i.e. play a music CD in one room, and surround sound from a DVS in another room). The receiver works great, and sounds great, except the JVC Megachanger seems to have issues with the receiver (or vice versa) when the CD Changer is selected for the "sub room".

The Dec-2004 issue of Consumer Reports rates the JVC at #6 in their 27" standard-definition sets. The Panasonic is #7. The JVC is given a 5 out of 5 for sound. The Panasonic gets a 4 out of 5 for sound. The only other difference is that the Panasonic has 2 composite video rear inputs whereas the JVC only has 1.
Their repair history list JVC at say 4% and the Panasonic at 4.5%. That means the repair history is statistically equal.

Consumer Reports says that both TVs should be had for $350. You might find the JVC cheaper than $400 if you shop around. I like the 16:9 aspect ratio myself for DVDs.

I vote for the JVC.

Panasonic can be hit and miss. I had two Panasonic VCR's that were junk. On the other hand my Panasonic DV Recorder is awesome. I have a JVC TV that I have had for over six years with no problems. The only thing I have ever owned from JVC is this TV. I can not give you a complete answer, but can say I have had good and bad luck with Panasonic.

I was also thinking of the invar shadow mask..

I am slowly leaning towards the JVC now...
I tried to read the consumer reports, but one should have a subscription for that..I don't have one

My previous experience with JVC has been very good: I owned a mini-component stereo back in germany from JVC, and that thing sounded better than most bigger high-end stereo systems I've listend to. I was very happy with it.
With Panasonic I've had no experience so far, but I know that they also make quality products.

PRICE: I found the JVC for $289 at a place called Etronics.com(online), but before buying i have to make sure that JVC will honor the factory warranties if I bought it from an on-line dealer...or do they only honor the warranty when bought from their "authorized" on-line dealers???
I guess I'll have to write to JVC and ask them...

Thanks for all the feedback...keep them coming, guys.

Maybe this doesn't matter, but in Japan, Panasonic/Matsu****a is regarded as very inferior to pretty much every other Japnese brand.
Funny how censorship even cuts out legitimate parts of words?

Schmoe,
You grew up in Fayettenam?
I grew up down the road a couple of hours, on the beaches south of Wilmington. carolina and Kure Beach, to be precise.
Our high school (in Wilmington) used to be in the same athletic division as some Fayetteville schools.
Small world.

Fayettenam...that's about what they called it during the Vietnam war. Fort Bragg was just pouring troops out of there right into Vietnam. Grandpa had some land around that area. It was pretty. I was born there and raised some, then moving I went....from there to Augusta Georgia, then 6 years in Germany, then Clarksville Tennessee, then Hawaii, then Japan, then Guam, then back to Clarksville, then back to Guam, then to Fort Sill Oklahoma and that's it. I ain't planning to move anymore. Don't want my newborn to have to go through all that mess like I did.

You know, that's what I was thinking.
