hi guys this is my first time here. I here this site is where its at to find useful info, here's my dilema I have a 00 civic 1.6 SOHC 135,000 Km and want to know syn is a good idea. I just switched over to the new 5 w 30 Quaker State Q and 700k into the oil change my level has dropped. Should I go back to Castrol GTX, or go to a blend or stay with Q syn. Thanks. I live in canada where it is cold in the winter.

If it was working, why did you change?

Castrol Syn-blend is a nice upgrade to GTX. Better-yet, make your own blend using two GTX and one Synthetic proportion.

Is that Q the new synthetic Quaker State? It is normal for consumption to increase when first switching brands/groups of oil. Even when you had no consumption before. Give it a couple of oil changes before you make up your mind.

Synthetic is a good idea in your climate.

The q was on sale at crappy tire for .50 more than the GTX and all the hye about syn being better . Will my own blen offer any added protection I bought about 60 liters on sale of the syn and wondering if I should return it, or make my own blend wich sounds like a good idea. My neighbour swears by syntec 0w30 but its real expensive up here.

Oil consumption is a commonly reported problem with the initial use of some synthetics, the M1 PAO's are a good example.

This could be a similar issue with the new Quaker State Q synthetic. Possibly some cleaning going on in the ring packs generated by the better flow & different additives in the Q synthetic.

I think the Q synthetic line has a unique additive package that todate, we know little about.

IMHO, I'd stick with the Quaker State, top-off as it uses oil and see if it settles down in the next 1000 Km.

blue and tones i think that i am maybe premature in my judging and will give some more time. Should i stick my religous 5km oci or extend to 10KM

To be honest, I don't know much about the Q, but I would think the synthetic should be able to go the 10000 km OCI.

Valvoline maxlife synthetic also a good oil.

Quaker State Synt is a blend of Group 3 and about 20% group 4,with some other bases Iam not familar with, this is a well balanced engine oil, from what I know,,seems rather a secret ,or a mystry ,when I contacted them.....BL
