I plan on buy a Jeep grand Cherekee with the 5.7 liter Hemi engine. The only oil that must be used is 5W20.I'm thinking of using Mobil Clean 5000 for 3000 mile oil/filter changes then switch to Mobil 1 with 5,000 mile oil/filter changes.I want to break the engine in correctly.Any thoughts would be great. Thanks Joe

Sounds good Dually. I didn't even know they were offering a Hemi in the Jeep Grand cherokee? I knew they put the Hemi's in the Durango but in a Jeep? Still, cool! Sounds like you'll be getting your Jeep off to a good start.

I'm not really fully educated on filters but some good brands are Baldwin, Donaldson, Amsoil etc... However, one filter might perform better than another for your Jeep, so I'll leave that one for an expert. Of course though, if your really picky and plan on keeping the Jeep for a good long time. You could run a bypass filter on it,,,,AR

On a new engine I would change the oil and filter at 1,000 miles. You could switch then or do another few thousand then switch. I switched my Dodge 4.7 to Mobil 1 at 600 miles.

Hey Dually,

I just purchased a 05 Jeep GC with the 5.7L hemi. I'm planning on doing a 1500 mile oil change with castrol GTX, staying with the conventional oil till 6000 miles, then switching to mobil 1 5w-20 and going for 6000mile changes. I'm choosing 6000 miles, because jeep recommends either 3000 or 6000 mile OCI's. The mobil 1 should be good for 6000, especially with my wife doing most of the driving, she's not that hard on engines. Unlike me

RiotGrip, I would use a synthetic blend at the minimum if you are going to do 6000 mile OCI's. You would have to do all highway driving for that interval not be considered severe duty, particularly in PA where we're at.

Dad2leia,

I'm only using the dino till 6000miles, then its mobil 1 full synthetic from there on out. I plan to do the first oil change tonight or tomorrow for the initial break in, then change again at 3000m, then go to the synthetic.

RiotGrip,
How do you like your 05 Jeep GC with the 5.7?Next May I will take the plunge. This will be my first Chrysler/Jeep product.I've had concerns about Chrysler products(Fit/Finish)in the past but I hope this product proves me wrong. What made you go with a Jeep?Have you had good dealer service?
By looking at the oil filter location under the Jeep GC, the oil filter looks like it is in a tight spot for removal/replacment.Any insight would be great. Thanks Joe

Dually,

The Jeep is great. Dealer was OK. I chose the jeep because the price with all of the options was a best bet. I just changed the oil friday, and getting the filter off was a pain, I had to drill a hole in it and then lever it off with a screw driver. That could have been avoided by just buying the proper size filter wrench. Getting the new filter on was fairly easy though. One nice feature is that they have built a tray and drain path to catch all of the oil that comes out with the filter, so it isn't quite as messy. The next change should be a lot easier. hope this helps.
