I have a 08 Ford Focus with 7100 miles. I would like to change to Amsoil. Max oil changes would be 7500 miles while in warrenty. I am trying to decide between 0W-20 100% Synthetic and 5W-20 Xl. Are they API certified? Also is the 5W-20XL a blend? Any advantages one over the other?

The 5W-20 XL is API certified. It is a group III synthetic and is not a blend. The 0W-20 is not API certified but meets, probably exceds, all specifications.

Only the XL line of Amsoil is API cerified.
Ford calls for 5W-20, that's what you should use.
The XL line is not a blend in the ordinary sense;
as I understand it, it's a blend of Group V and group III oil.
It's still considered a full synthetic, I believe.

If you are trying to be on the up and up on warranty stay with the XL.
The XL is considered a full synthetic just like Castrol, Pennzoil platinum. But most of the other Amsoil oils are POA. Hence a little more $$$.

The POA is the next step up.

I like the XL's viscosity curve better for CA driving. It's also API certified, so there shouldn't be any warranty claim worries. I don't see any TBN issues with either in a 7,500 mile run.

HT/HS of the XL is slightly less than the 0w-20, but both are higher than most 5w-20's out there. The XL's higher NOACK might mean you'll have to top off during the OCI, but who knows?

I'd probably go with the XL just to play nice with my warranty.

How dare you expose My dyslexia....... Yes that's what I meant. I'm kind of a sloppy writer....

Well seeing how Amsoil recommends 7500 miles or the manufacturer's recommended interval whichever is longer for the XL, it looks to me you are set like a jet!

I was gonna run XL if I hadn't got this case of Napa syn so cheap.
