95 plymouth neon, SOHC. 67,400 miles. i go through moderate stop and go traffic, HOT eather, and in winter, terribly cold. car rusn on 5 w 30 oil use 10w 30 for summer. i change my oil every 3 months, would using conventional oil even under these circumstances, be okay? or would synthetic be the way to go? i am kinda getting edgy about synthetic now, because of my short change intervals.

How many miles do you cover in 3 months? If you aren't doing more than 3K, I'd say a good quality dino is the way to go. If you want to do it every 3 months that is.

A quality dino 5w30 (Pennzoil, Havoline, Citgo, etc) combined with a Purolator Premium Plus filter every 3,000 miles or 3 months will serve you extremly well. Based on your milage (67,000 in 10 years) you may want to consider a 6 month 3,000 miles OCI.

recalculated my drivnig mileage in a year, i put about 3,800 plus miles a year on my car. loked at my oil, earlier this evening it was turning black. its moblie 1 10W30. 1995 plymouth neon, SOHC. plus ive read sythetic may nto b the best choice, becuae it will not properly lubricate in cars with higher mileage, and breaks sown eventually. jsut looking fo rhte best prtoection for ccar, without so much slduge and varnish build up ect. where i live, during the summer now, for 2 months almost, the afternoo temperature is 95 degrees, and with terible humidity, it feels like its 120 degrees. during the winter, from january to february, at late night, average temperature is around 10 to 0 degrees, just nearing 0 basically.

then to top it off, i drive 16 miles bothw ays 5 days a week, with stop and go traffic, becau thiers alwasy construction on the highway here, 3 lanes are almost always closed down to 2..

How long does it take you to go 16 miles? Or do you mean 16 miles round trip? Maqking each driving cylcle 8 miles. The latter works out closer to your annual commuter miles. I would be most concerned about inadequate warm up in the winter and excessive moisture in the CC. I would change it at 3 month intervals during the coldest 6 months and run it out to 6 months in the summer.. Using whatever currently specced oil is on sale. I am from where it gets prety hot. the heat is not that big of a deal unlike moisture in the air and a constantly cold crankcase during the winter.

You're very confused. I don't know where you heard that synthetic oil won't properly lubricate a car with higher mileage, that is simply untrue. And synthetic oil has a better chance of NOT breaking-down versus a conventional oil (given the same car/engine & driving conditions).

With that said, you're wasting your $$$ on synthetic oil if your draining it every 1,200 miles. Any of the often-mentioned quality conventional oils will perform just fine over that short OCI in your Neon.

yeah i figured i would be wasiting money and oil ect. i like to change my oil at 3 month intervals, because by that time, literally, conventional or synthetic, the oil is already pitch black. i dont like to leave stuff lke that in my car, lets say with synthetic for 6 months! i think perhpas fram has soething to do with it too, i know thier not really desirable filters. i looked at Ac delco, and motorcraft, but they dont seem to hav anti drain back vlaves. jsut a hollow filter, wih material. i usppose its true then, best filters would be mobile 1, amsoil, and purolater.
