i have a 1994 Trans am with 100k miles on it with a cam. doesnt burn much oil. sees a decent amount of WOT usage. i am currently using 10w30 royal purple. any suggestions?

Any dino for up to 5K OCI or 6 months
Any synthetic for up to 7.5K OCI or 1 year
Pennzoil Platinum for up to 10K OCI or 1 year
Mobil1 EP or Amsoil for up to 12K OCI or 1 year

I have a 1996 Camaro SS which really loved Redline. Use to run 5w-30 when it was stock. Now with 1,000 Hp custom turbo setup I use 10w-40. Some think that Redline is overkill for a more mild street application but i disagree. Upon teardown, Redline always looks better in my opinion. The only downside is the cost.

I had great oil analysis results using German Castrol 0w30 when I had my 95 Firebird Formula. It had just over 100,000 miles on it when I traded it for my Corvette.

I used to use MaxLife 10W-30 in my sister's old '94 Firebird Formula V8 (same as your Trans-Am pretty much) and it loved it. Even stopped a slight leak that it had since we got it.

iv always wondered where to get german castrol. is it the European formula? is it synthetic?

you can stay w/ that or try something else, in my 94 LT1 i've tried Redline 10W-30, 5W-30 (it liked), PP 5W-30, M1 10W-30, 5W-30, never could find GC around here.

MaxLife 10W-30 is in now and it feels good. wallet feels good too, $13 jug at walmrt. think i'll try their 5W-30 next

Yes, it says European Formula on the bottle. It is a 0w30. It is 100% synthetic.

i also forgot to mention it likes to rev higher than stock, stock rev limit is 5700. my cam and springs made it go to 6300. would it be better to switch to a thicker oil?

Growing up using 10-40 and 20-50 extensively, I have slowly adjusted to using the 5-20 in the Honda. Still wonder though, each time I pour the 'water' in. UOAs BTW have been stellar on 5-20. As far as the high revving SBC, on my 95 LT1 (can shift at 6K rpm)I'm going to try 5-30 Amsoil-(I hear Gary in the distance making the ca-ching noise) cause their gear and rearend lubes made that car sing).THe 02 LS6 motor I canshift at 6700 rpm, PP 5-30, and then probably Amsoil.
I would recommend a stout synthetic 10-30 with 3000 mile OCI

The German 0w30 is a thicker oil, it's 12.1 cst at 100c, which is about 1.5 to 2 cst thicker than most 5w30s and 10w30s out there. It's almost a 40 weight oil.
