Saw these two jugs from our local oil shop. Total is almost half the price of mobil 1. I want to do 1 year or 5000kms(3000 miles)change interval with 80% stop and go and short distance trips.

Stop and go is hard on a car, but 3000 miles is so short on those engines that the Total would easily do that. 1 year and 3000 miles on a conventional wouldn't be a problem either.

Also, not sure why you're going for a 40 instead of a 30 weight oil.

Yeah i guess 3000 miles is too short. I'll try Total then. It's hard to find 30 weight oil here. You only see mostly 20w-50. My owner's manual says I can use either 5w-30, 10w-30, 5w-40, 10w-40 or 15w-40. So I guess it's okay.

Total is good stuff. I use the Quartz INEO 5w30 in an Acura 1.7 EL (7th gen Civic engine), runs smooth, idle quiet and doesn't burn a drop. Level on the dipstick doesn't change even after 5K of mostly highway use.

But not in tropical asia. Car manufacturers here allow different viscosities. Honda brand oil is 10w-40

Your case is unique. I wouldn't pay double to use M1 0w40 over Total. When we rave about M1 0w40here, we do so being able to pay reasonable prices for it. In fact, there's a sale going on right now where we can get 5 quarts of it plus an M1 filter for $30 US. Total Quartz is an oil we can't get over here in normal channels stateside but from what I hear, it's great in Europe. I've seen some stores here import that Quartz and charge $15 for a 1 quart bottle.

Wow. Prices are the other way around depending where you are.

M1 0w-40 is a great oil. But the Total oil is also quality and will easily protect your vehicle. Save some cash and get the one that's cheaper (Total).
