Which motor oils contain esters?

Redline has a heavy dose of Polyol Ester.

Other 'synthetics' used to be PAO and usually dibasic Ester but nowadays ...who knows?

Some less expensive synthetic blends and High Mileage oils have also been rumored to have a small amount of Ester...but that no longer be true.

Thought I would resurrect this one... Through some research... Castrol GTX start-up and Castrol Syntec Blend.

Any others? I too would like to know as I've read on here, that oils with esters may help some with cold start piston slap.

Thanks,

Chris

All Redline and probably most Motul oils.

After that it is hard to be certain since the formulations from other companies keep changing and Group III basestock seems increasingly popular.

Group III might mean that a little ester is used and little if any PAO...but it is hard to tell whats in the bottle.

I had an Aunt named Ester. Anyhow, what evidence is there that esters help with piston slap? I'm not denying it; I just like evidence for things.

Chris, have you got anything conclusive regarding these two oils?

VP contains esters and used to available at a great price-check the website to see if it is still available.

It's not available anymore. I'm running it in my explorer, and was going to get more, but it's no longer available on their website.

I also believe I once read on their site that some of the top Elf oils contain a decent % of ester bases (contrary to what someone on here once said about their basestocks).
But the O.P. was asking about "common" oils. I would not call ANY of the "boutique oils" mentioned "common"!!

+1. I'll take a stab and speculate any of the Mobil 1 Delvac 1 5W-40 oiils still have mostly PAO and Ester.
