Will the Borate esters in Pennzoil ultra platinum be a bad thing for fords wet oil pump belt? Trying to decide if regular Pennzoil platinum without it would be best for the wet belt. Appreciate any info. There is so much miss information I want to use the best oil to protect that belt.

Not only does pup have WSS M2C9-60/61/62-A1 meaning it shouldn't have an issue with wet belts but borate esters don't react with rubber. They could react with water contamination more so than oils without it and maybe that could harm wet belts more however borate esters can and most likely are stabilized to not form boric acid in a concerning amount in the first place. It's a non issue for the most part.

Appreciate that explanation

A mechanic at a local shop was telling me esters can eat a wet belt and make it come apart. That's why I brought it to you guys. I've been using amsoil xl but tries some ultra platinum in my grand marquis and it gets great gas mileage and is so quiet. Cheaper than the xl also. Trying to decide if I should make the change permanently. You know how we like to obsess over oil😁😁😁 . Thanks for the info guys. Hope you all have a great day!

It's a legit question and concern.

On their own esters could affect seals and rubber sure but there's ways to prevent that if an oil is fully and properly formulated. Its been discussed a while ago.
