You know, all of that crazy driving that nearly 80 year olds do, in a minivan.

I'm glad that someone wants to keep Michelin in business, it's not me.

Defenders have an 80 or 90K treadwear warranty for passenger rated sizes (60K on SUV sizes)-did they or the tire shop redeem it on the prematurely worn Defenders?

We run dedicated snow tires in winter so I can't comment about snow/ice performance.

Sounds like you have been happy with the Premier tire and that is the newer technology (vs defender), so why not just stay with it?

You only get 40-45k in your ‘07 CRV with the Defenders?!?!?? I ran thru 2 sets of Latitude Tours and got 90k+ on one set and just under that on the second with my ‘08. I’m at nearly 50K on my Defenders with very little discernible wear and about 8/32” of tread left.

You've identified what's important to you, which is the first step in choosing a tire.
Then it is tough to get good info, but I'm going to say Defender is your tire here.
Michelin does say the Defender beats the Hades out of their own HydroEdge. Ideally we'd put a Premier on the spider chart, but here it is anyway:

i vote premier. I understand but don't see the 8.5 tread as being thst bad.

I don't want 100,000 mile tires. Id rather have the softer "better" tires and wear them out within 5years versus rubber that turns into serviceable but unexceptional donuts of rubber in years 6 to 10

Ive used 2 sets of pilot exalto a/s on my old gs300 over a primacy, which would be similar choice to your decision of premier over defender. They worked great. But I changed over to fresh rubber of same tire even though tread depth was at 5/32nds and usable around 50k miles on it, I could tell the difference and was "worth it" to me to ditch the old tires.

I believe costco has michelins on sale with extra lowered install fees.
