Our philosophy is simple; quality base stock and friction modifiers.
We were the first company to blend "Moly" (molybdenum disulfide) in 1962. We hold several exclusive patents on our moly.
In comparison, Amsoil is a group IV like Schaeffer's but Amsoil uses Zinc. We use zinc in our diesel and racing oils but there's nothing like Moly.
Moly is a boundary lubricant. It withstands up to 500,000psi. Once it plates metal the only way to get it off is to grind it off. It plates up to 39 slippage planes, this is less than a micron so there are no clearance issues.
I believe the Rotella product you refer to has titanium. Titanium is an good boundary lubricant, however, it only handles 80,000.psi by comparison. More importantly, Rotella is only a group II or possibly group III. This is important because 85% of an engine oil is base stock, 15% is additives.
Remember, it's all about quality base stock and friction modifiers.
I was also confused about moly as i heard a rumor that it could clog lines so i emailed them back and got :
Moly plates (builds up) up to 39 slippage planes and then stops. These slippage planes are kind of like stacking playing cards on a table. The thickness of these 39 slippage planes is less than 1 micron.
Teflon is the boundary additive that builds up. It will never stop plating. Furthermore, it only withstands 20,000psi.
