Which HDEO has the most moly?

I'm finding over time my Jeep 4.0 seems to love moly, best results thus far seem to have come from Pennzoil conventional. Being as it's a 4.0 the HDEO's are not off the menu. Therefore which HDEO has the most moly content?

I've used Rotella, which has virtually none, and was very happy with it but curious about the others. I'm also thinking about trying MoS2 in it.

Be carefull as MoS2 is not the moly thats in the Pennzoil Conventional or Formula Shell. Moly Di-Thio-Carbamate(SP?) was used in SL, SM formulation IDK whats in use now as certain moly compounds will not allow the final blend to pass specific API deposit and ring stick spec.
 
Thanks I was aware MoS2 was a different type of moly. Digging around hasn't found me an HDEO with anywhere near the moly of Pennzoil conventional anyway, the HDEO's seem to take a different approach to wear protection.

More than one way to skin a cat but the Jeep really seems to like the moly.
 
I haven't found any HDEOs with a significant moly content. Rotella T6 5w40 has more than it did, but still not very much. I tried MoS2 in my Jeep a few times. I honestly didn't notice any change. It seemed quieter on the Pennzoil conventional than when I added the MoS2. I would just stick with what works, maybe bump it up to a 10w40 in the summer if you feel it is necessary.

Thanks for the tip on MoS2, think I'll pass on that then.

Like a typical BITOG'er I've already found the silver bullet for my Jeep (Pennzoil conventional) but I'm still trying to do better hah hah!

Thank you, I thought so too but when I dug up recent used oil analysis both Delo and Delvac showed very low moly.

I'll have to look up Schaeffers, but I have no idea where to get it never seen it anywhere, thanks.

300+ppm but it is not cheap.

IIRC Schaeffers uses a lot of Moly in its oils.
 
If you can find a local dealer that can get it to you without outrageous s&h charges, you can get it for a little over $20 a gallon, about the same as T6 at the Wal-Mart. I'm using some Schaeffers in my truck right now and I'm hoping I'll be able to get at least 20-30,000 miles out of it.
 
It also depends on what kind of organic moly is used. Trinucler (trimer) moly made by Infineum is many times more potent than other kinds of organic moly. Basically, 50 - 100 ppm of trinuclear moly results in maximum moly protection.

Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15w40 has trinuclear moly according to its datasheet. According to used oil analysis, it has about 60 ppm (trinuclear) moly, which is pretty good.

Excerpt from the datasheet linked above:

"* Trimer additive technology is a patented additive technology that imparts outstanding wear performance, effective oxidation resistance and improved frictional properties while contributing little to the overall ash content enabling Mobil Delvac 1300 Super to deliver performance beyond the boundaries of industry requirements of API CJ-4."
 
You could always add a bottle of Lubegard oil additive (blue bottle) to your crankcase. It should bump your moly up 300ppm. That's a decent jump. It's organic moly too. So, it's completely dissolved.

Only $10 a bottle.
 
from what I've read...can't find the sources since I cleared my brower's history...Valvoline Premium and Napa Fleet Plus each have 100 + ppm, which negates them from use in my motorcycle due to common sump & wet clutch; I'm holding onto some Napa Fleet Plus I bought to use in the scooter which DOES NOT have a wet clutch
