HF has two fans to choose from. A 24" fan and a 30" pedestal fan. Both are the same price. I would rather have the 24" style, but the 30" seems to have better specs. I'm sure they are both adequate for the garage but I'm also a little worried about long term life since these both only come with a 90 day warranty.

I have a neighbor down the road that had a fan that size in his garage. It's so loud, even on low speeds, that he can't use it. Listening to a radio while in his garage was impossible, and when the fan was on you could here it roar from a block away.

No thanks.

At my job we have 2 of the HF pedistool model fans that run about ten hrs a day. On the high setting the are loud, but it's a big warehouse so the noise isn't as annoying. They do move some air and this is their second year with us. For the price there not a bad deal. If you have a one or two car garage it might be a little big, but usable on the low setting.,,

What warranty comes with typical, store-bought fans like this ? 90 days seems quite normal.

I feel like a year warranty is the norm with most things.

I have seen the units pictured above in my local store and they do look/feel the part. The motor bushings/bearings are always the weak point. I bought a couple of 24" high velocity Chinese jobs from a local home/hardware store about 10yrs ago. The ones with the heavy chromed steel cage and tubular steel stand. One locked up 2yrs ago and the second is about done. I could probably figure out how to pull the motors apart and try to clean/lube the bushings, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort. I have always keep them clean and relatively dust free.

In terms of HFT fans, we've had the one pic'd below for a few years. Moves an incredible amount of air for it's size and isn't obnoxiously loud.

At work I have need to occasionally use both fans, but they are old 1960's vintage made in USA ones.
The real choice is probably: how often are you going to move it around?
The pedestal on low is quiet but moves enough air to dry eyes and send papers off tables.
It is also a complete bear to move. Get a large mover's dolly to put it on, and it is merely dangerous to move.
It's very top-heavy.

The 24" is much easier to move around and is relatively difficult to tip over.
A bit nosier, but when I use this I always have it on high, because the server room's chilled water
has gone down and I need to move air through two doors.

Get you an old furnace fan.

Most modern squirrel cage furnace fans are 3-speeds - comfort doesn't have to be loud/noisy!!

Just grab a 16" Walmart Fan. $17. Move a ton of air last forever. Until you knock it over running . Blades are cheap plastic and break but if you don't knock it it'll last many years. We have 4 in horse barn and it's not awfully loud with all of the, running..
Best way to insure they won't break is glue it to a plywood base at least 5" wide. The folding legs on those are 💩.

Their ok.

Can't beat them in that application, plus the option for light. Do the lights on those fans have standard bulb sockets or are they some other annoying size?
