G/f got me the Garmin 755t for my b-day this year:

Before that, I was using an old version of TomTom on my phone.

None.

I was raised the old fashioned way to prepare or read the dog gone map.

That's just another way to create dependence........ This is huge - think about it! What other parts of your brain are you gonna disable...???

NO WAY am I gonna lose my sense of finding places, remembering them and using my memory to find them again. Turn me around a lot, put me in places where I need to find my way out or ask me which way is North and dog gone it I will succeed!

That is very true. It takes much longer to memorize a route if you keep relying on the GPS.

But for longer trips it comes handy as you don't have to pull over to study the map or ask for directions (us being the typical men that we are). I usually print out google or mapquest directions and keep them as backup anyway on those longer roadtrips.

I have a few Garmin models in the Family. 2 Street Pilot C330's and 2 Nuvi's 250W and 205.

They all have been excellent. I use mine daily as I drive for a living and it is the best thing I ever bought.

I had a Tom-Tom and a Magellen before this for about a week each and returned them for my original Garmin.

To me Garmin is the best out there, no looking back!

Mine is the Garmin 76 something (color, altitude, etc) Not really many roads on it, and most are in the wrong places, but I use it to get back on path, head in the right direction, record my trips and print maps for others.
I can look back and see how long it takes to get from point to point.

I dont really like the GPS, as I do not learn the roads that I am driving as well. That said, for going to new places, it does help a LOT.

We got a garmin nuvi 205w. We wanted the most basic item possible, because in reality, Im not going to pay for traffic service (already get it on my iphone), were not going to use it as an MP3 player, and while the bluetooth handsfree is a nice concept, We both use wired handsfree devices anyway.

The 205W has a wide screen, which we found to be really nice. It is far faster than the last-gen GPS that the in-laws have.

I like the 205w. they have a few other versions if Canadian or Alaskan or European maps are necessary... I figure if we really need them, we will just buy another or the map upgrade. We arent planning on needing either functionality in the next 5 years...

These things are just another way to feed the addiction to have a video monitor in front of our fat face as much as possible.

I don't think people will wake up until they realize what they lost and then it's too late. No wait, they will not be able to realize it anymore.

Your brain - use it or lose it.

I am just playing with you!!

I see what your saying.
However, the abiltiy to get me some where safely and quickly, with out looking at a map while driving, missing exits on unknown highways, and the ability of finding a gas station in the middle of NO WHERE is far enough reason for me and most people to have GPSs.

Garmin Nuvi 350. I pretty much have to have a GPS for my job delivering parts for Napa. The first day on the job I got lost about 15 d*** times from listening to vague directions and poorly drawn maps. It was a stressful first day. As soon as I got home, I borrowed my uncle's TomTom and used it for the next few weeks until I bought my Garmin. It totally saved me on my second day, as I had to drive very far on many back-roads that I've never traveled on. I can't even imagine how lost I would've been without it.

Yes, I realized that when I was typing it...

When we're driving, we should be driving, not have the cell phone or text messaging going on. Now, add the navigation video screen to the mix and no wonder inattentiveness related accidents and erratic driving is everywhere.

StreetPilot c550. It works pretty well, the FM traffic feature is nice, especially in this area, although sometimes the maps are out of date. I also love the fact it gives me an estimated ETA to my destination. It's not perfect though, there are times it doesn't pick the fastest route and won't update to a better route unless I cancel and restart a trip.

If anything, I think having the GPS helps me to learn new roads and new ways to get around. Anyone who doesn't learn new roads while driving with a GPS isn't paying enough attention and is just blindly following directions. That said, I still have a very poor sense of direction.

On a slight tangent, has anyone used those GPS screen scratch repair kits? I accidentally put a scratch in the screen of my unit on a recent trip and was wondering if they work at all. The touchscreen still reads/works fine, just a bit on the annoying side.

Magellan Maestro 3200
I like some things and don't like others. It's there when I need it and really, a great toy for the money.

Just a Garmin Streetpilot C330 I bought for myself for Christmas last year. (Funny story, not really as selfish as it sounds.) I never have it in the car, except when Im going somewhere. I usually dont even use it then, just have it so I know where I am. Also functions as a nice "Heads up" speedometer on the highway. Except that one time under the bridge it lost a sat and said I was going 440MPH...
