I have an 02 Explorer sport with the 4.0 v-6 automatic and I am getting ready to change the fluid in the differential. The owners manual calls for 80W90. I am considering M1 75W90 and Amsoil 80W90. Which would be best for my application, or any other fluids? Thanks

The diff is a Ford 8.8", which is the same as yours.

I'm not sure which diff I have, but I checked my owners manual and it specifies 80W90 for non LS diff. It also has a 2.9 quart capacity which seems higher than average. This diff has only one add plug and no drain. It must be pumped out. This is very different than my 4 door explorer which has a drain plug and specifies 75W140. Would using the 75W140 where 80W90 is specified have a noticable effect on MPG? Thanks

Update. I have come across TSB 05-12-6 in which Ford recommends replacing the axle lubricant with 75W140.
