Is it good to change brake fluid and what brand to use,I hve a toyota 1995 pickup, never changed brake fluid yet, just added when needed thru the years.
what do u think??????????????

Any fluid that meets DOT3 spec.

Thats all you NEED to look for.

Yes with 208k for your van and your 15 year old Toyota you should do a flush with the above fluid.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air. The moisture mixes with the fluid. This lowers the boiling point, so under the heat of emergency braking the fluid can vaporize, your pedal goes to the floor, and you have no brakes. Also, the moisture-containing brake fluid can cause accelerated corrosion in the calipers and wheel cylinders.

I disagree with Bill...some DOT3 brake fluids hold their boiling point up better than the minimum requirement. Castrol LMA and Valvoline are two good ones.

The minimum requirement (the DOT3 spec) has worked for him for 208 thousand miles in one vehicle and 15 years with the other.

Unless you think Toyota or Dodge use Castrol or Valvoline (or some "better" fluid)

Which they don't.

Stand by the advise I posted.

Yes, way past due for a brake fluid flush. Most recommendations are to flush the system out every 2 to 3 years.

In Europe part of the inspection process is to check that boiling point every 2 years and if it fails, that car doesn't pass. Most Americans don't even think of it. (I'm American so don't hate me!)
Hopefully BITOG-ers do.

DO NOT use the PUMP method. Use a vacuum. you run the risk of blowing the master cylinder sinceit has so mnay miles.

Any DOT3 is fine, but DOT4 stays cleaner for a longer period of time.

That in mind, I see so many Toyota cars with the OE fluid still yellow after 5 years of use, so I suspect that the Dealership DOT3 is better than the stuff you find in auto part stores.

To the op:
What fluid did you end up using in your truck ?

I just did my '95 Camry with 254k.
I ended up using the Valvoline Synthetic fluid from Autozone.
It seemed to have the best dry, and wet boiling point numbers.
Plus for 7 bucks you can't go wrong.
My car had the original brake fluid in it, and it was a dark brown color. I used the pump method, and my master cylinder is ok.
