Which oil filters are you folks comfortable changing once a year or every 10k miles?

I realize it's a broad question, but I maintain four domestic vehicles and run a synthetic oil in each one. In the past, I've always used an AMSOIL filter, but I'm tired of having to order; it would be nice just to walk into (insert your favorite parts store name) and walk out with the filters I need.

Fram Ultra.
Napa Platinum
The Wix synthetic, whatever it's name is, same as Napa.
Bosch Distance Plus
Royal Purple

That said, 1yr/10k mi. on a well maintained engine isn't exactly a stressor and other lower/mid tier filters with silicone adbv could be brought into the mix as well with no worries.

Fram Ultra
Purolator Synthetic
Bosch Distance Plus
Napa Platinum

The Fram Ultra is the best bang for your buck and is an excellent filter.

I agree 100 percent with Sayjac. A year and 10K is not a big whoop for any high quality filter on most modern engines in most situations. The key elements are the operating environment and the engine type. An old school, flat-tappet engine (<'90s) or a constant short-hop operating cycle would indicate a closer look at a 10K interval but even then, it's likely doable after some extra scrutiny.

I will go down a tier from experience, all filters mentioned above are sure bets due to their wire backed media but I have found these to be great and up to the task....
Bosch D+ (A really high quality, high efficiency filter)
M1
K&N
Wix/NAPA Gold

All of these have held up fine under 10k/1y and I would say they all looked like they could go another.

For the 35 years I have been doing 10K OCIs I have used many differant filters. All of them worked well. Remember the oil is far more important than the filter.

Napa Platinum, Bosch Distance Plus, Purolator Synthetic, Fram Ultra. Fram Ultra is easy to find at Walmart and is the most inexpensive.

What filters do you use for your 10K OCI?

Like I said, I've used them all, including Amsoil, M1, Pure 1, WM Super Tech, and others, but for several years now I have use MC filters.

I use a Bosch D+ on our family's Mazda for a 7.5K OCI, which works out to about 8-10 months. Never an issue, except they are a little on the expensive side, but not really too bad for a legit premium filter designed to handle even longer OCIs. This would be a good choice for your application.

If any of your vehicles can use a Motorcraft filter number that ends in an S, that would be your best, cost-effective option.

The Bosch Premium at AZ would also be a good choice. Both the Bosch and the Motorcraft S filters have a silicone anti-drain back valve.

If you've always used synthetic your engines are likely clean just about any name brand filter will do 10k without issue in those circumstances IMO. I'd lean toward a filter with a silicone ADBV though as nitrile could start to show it's age over those kind of miles.

Being a filter geek though I'd probably pick a Fram Ultra.

A $3.95 Motorcraft FL-400s from Walmart would be a perfect 7,500 mile filter for your car. That distance is the normal recommended OCI for the Mazda 2.5.

Yes, you are right. I am almost positive there is nothing wrong with using Motocraft Syn Blend or PYB and the oil filter you describe for the same OCI I am running, but somehow (right or wrong) I think I am providing my car better protection this way.

I have one more Bosch D+ filter and a 5qt jug of P. Ultra 5W-20 on the shelf (which I had rebates for). That will get the car to 47.5K miles. Maybe I'll go to a more budget friendly method after that.

I used various low to mid-range but never high-end oil filters(including OCOD, Purolator Classic, MC, Bosch Premium ...) in my 300,000+ miles LS400 for 1 year FCI up to 13-15k miles.

The air filter is more importance in a good clean engine.
