Where were you 5 years ago?

I received my 60-day notice that the office was shutting down. The big-shot from NYC flew in to give us the news personally.

The poor guy who axed me was stranded in Chicago due to the outage.....hee-hee-hee.

Kind of good thing/bad thing for me. First, my wife was about to give birth to our daughter in three months but found out that week that my Dad had brain/bone/lung cancer at stage IV. He retired after 37 years of civil service and then died 4 months later. Bittersweet. He passed a week after my daughter was born.

We were sent home form work when we found out the extent of the outage. I rode my bike into work that morning (about 19 miles) and a co-worker was giving me a ride home. After a long ride home without traffic lights, I told her I'd ride home from her place since it was only about five miles or so from our house.

When I got home, the power was on. Our house never lost power. :)

Driving between SF and LA every other weekend to see my gf (now wife), and pack my car full of strangers and charge them $50 ea round trip. She questioned whether I really loved her or just trying to make a quick buck.

If I were to do it now it would be more like charging $70 round trip ea.
