I'm a recycling nut and I recycle everything. My only problem is that I'm having a hard time finding a place where they recycle oil filters. I have about 20 old oil filters that I don't want to just dump.

I carefully drain mine, often disassemble them, and include them with the tin cans I recycle.

I haven't asked if it is OK. Our county flier on recycling never mentions them.

Call the county or muni you live in and they should have answers. Someones got a filter crusher. I don't know how laws go state to state. There has to be a way to dispose of these properly. They wouldn't let us toss floor dry anymore, and it got hauled off with the crushed filters in sealed drums.

I think we looked this up before it's ok to throw them in garbage as long as they're drained... found that on epa's website. Arent most filters made of steel? i would say AZ AA walmart any place like that would have a drop off...

I do the same, I cut it open let the oil drain out for a few days which normally leaves it pretty clean and toss the steel in the recycle

I put mine in a plastic freezer bag and take it to the Jiffy Lube I recycle the used oil at. They have a filter crusher, and were even nice enough to take my 8 year old into the pit to show him how they crush them and recycle.

I do try to recycle oil filters and I'd prefer to recycle them but I have a very hard time finding places that do it. On Earth911, it says my local Wal-Mart recycles them, but half of the time they give me a hard time saying it's only for the TLE and other times they have no problem with it. I got tired of fighting with them so now I've just been storing them in my garage until I find another place that will take them without hassling me.

Mine out the landfills, I like that.
