Are these sold in Auto Zone, Advanced, Pep Boys, and the like? Mobil oil change stores only? Never seem to find them on the shelf anywhere.

All those stores you listed should have them. Take a good look high and low, as they might not be readily available.
Wal-Mart might also have some, if you have a decent Wal-Mart nearby.

+1 Was checking some out a few weeks back at Advance to check some information that was posted here recently. Seem to have a good selection.

I got mine from Meijer, if you have any in your area.
Meijer for me too, or you can order on Advance Auto website ship to home if you really want them. Plenty of places online to find them such as Amazon.

Pep Boys has a good selection. It's only place that I can find the M1-209 for my V8 4Runner. It's a longer substitute, same bypass setting just more media and volume for the same price.
Price Mobil 1 oil is reasonable at Walmart, but Mobil 1 oil filter is over priced almost everywhere. There is no reason to pay more than $10-12 for M1 oil filter while you can get Fram Ultra for less than $10 at most auto parts store.
