Where to get a used oil analysis

Blackstone is a site sponsor and probably most recommended. They do mine and service is pretty fast - generally less than one week from the day I send the sample and I have an e-mailed report.

w/ blackstone, when you send in your oil put it in a little box and it will go much faster than sending the round bottle. for me, a mailed bottle takes about 2 weeks vs. the box about 2 days. don't ask me why, something about the post office not liking round containers or liquid.? I just peel off the blackstone label off the black bottle and stick it on the box.

After having one lab (not Blackstone) unable to offer a good explanation as to why my sample showed high postassium, while Terry Dyson was able to provide a plausable explanation, I'll spend the extra money and send my stuff to Dyson Labs

I still like the "new" OAI (ran by Polaris Labs vs.Staveley Analytical). You get a TBN, Oxidation and Nitration value for sample from an AL2A accredited laboratory with phone support. Better yet there's no fuzzy language to weed through! Using Terry Dyson is like opting for fillet mignon for weekday eats...outstanding, but fiscally should be enjoyed in moderation (no offense to the Dyson fans because he is the shiat).

I wanted to like OAI, but they've messed up on all 3 of my analysis' I've sent in, and the last one took 3 weeks to reach them for some reason, compared to 1 week for the other 2 I sent in previous. Blackstone was always fast, and didn't make any mistakes on my reports. I'll be switching back to Blackstone. I wish they provided a TBN for free, that's the main reason I wanted to try OAI. Oh well.

Which lab did you use ThirdYe? Sorry that you had a bad experience. I found that if you sent them the old white Staveley bottles they could get confused, but since the new black bottles are out it's been Johnnie on the Spot for me. Phone support was pretty good too if you had questions about your analysis. Blackstone will hook you up with reliable #'s...just don't read the comments unless you are in a foul mood and need a laugh :-).

I called them, and they were helpful the first time, but the 2nd time they were less than helpful. They tried saying I didn't provide the model of my car on the slip, but I clearly wrote it down. I provided it to the woman on the phone, and she just said "okay, thanks, I'll make a note of it" and never bothered to follow up with me on the comparisons. It said on the slip that I needed to provide it, in order for them to get a baseline for recommendations... But I never got anything back. It's always been the Indiana location for me.

I use Staveley and have had great service. They even call me and me feel loved. Really though they do call and are very efficient.
