Where to find Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0w-40?

My dad has a 2023 or 2024 F350 with 6.7 HO. I’m not very familiar with diesel engine specifications, but want to grab some oil for his next change and I think there is a rebate currently going on for this oil.

From what I can tell, Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0w-40 is one of the better choices, but I can’t seem to find it in stock. I did find it from a potentially sketchy online vendor in a 5 gal pail.

Where are you guys sourcing this oil? Or, is there a better choice?

5W-40, it is easier to find!
Is the 5w-40 version as good as the 0w-40? I admittedly haven’t researched it all that much, but from what I was reading, it may track with the gas version of ESP where the 0w variants are “preferred” by some around here.

Also, not sure the 5w has the Ford approval like the 0w does.

Its very different. The 5w-40 is GTL, ester, and AN with a calcium/magnesium detergent package abd over 1000 of zinc and phosphorus but its also got moly and boron to. Density is .852 IIRC and the 0w-40 is .879 and is PAO and i assume a ton of ester, we will know next week an idea when my VOA comes back, i bought some off ebay and am mailing a VOA tomorrow. The 0w-40 is 2200ppm calcium and same zddp as the 5w-40 but no moly no boron or magnesium

0w40 vs. 5w40, might be a difference, on paper anyway. Zero difference as far as your dad's engine is concerned, in TX temperatures.

An oil you can get is infinitely better than one you can't.
I’m not worried about the winter rating, even though I can see why you’d think that given I called out 0w vs 5w. I’m more concerned with the recipe used to create these oils. Much like the ESP 0w30 and ESP 5w30 that are very different recipes. @travis8352 alluded to these differences above.

Right. Why I said there might be paper differences.

Practical perspective, your dad's engine won't care either way and you can get one oil but not the other. The oil you can get is the better choice, no matter how they compare on paper.

In Texas a 15w40 Diesel oil is all you probably need. I have not seen anyone post UOA's of a 0w40 vs a 5w40, I've been curious for quite some time if it would hold up better or worse than it's 5w40 counterpart in the same flavor/brand. But after getting a price for a barrel of the same 0w40 Delvac 1 ESP from a local distributor almost 10 years ago I decided I'd just stick with their 5w40. It was seriously cost prohibitive at the time. Imagine it still would be...

People seem to rave about HPL. If you're trying to find your Dad 'the best' or in that realm then I would lean that direction. But if you're not planning on UOA's and longer drain intervals I don't think it makes much sense. So then I'd fall back to the suggestion of a 15w40. Take your pick, there's a bunch.

Could try the Mobil Delvac™ Extreme 15W-40

No real reason to chase the 0w vs the 5w that's readily available. I have no idea how to source that version outside of living in an extremely cold environment and having local distributors available.

Very interested in this as I think the ester is gone from the 5w-40. Are you getting oxidation value?

Yes i am, ester is still in the 5w-40. I believe oxidation for that is 31. I saw FTIR before to and it has ANs to so delvac 1 5w-40 is GTL/ester/AN. Im expecting the 0w-40 to come in with a 90-130 oxidation based on the density. Delvac 1 80w-140 isnt even as dense as 0w-40 delvac 1 esp. heck its even higher density than redline 0w-40

From what I can tell, Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 0w-40...
May we see an image of that oil. I haven't seen it anywhere and also is not on the Mobil website. I have seen so far Delvac 1 ESP as 5W-30 and 5W-40. The second one is widely used.

Mobil 1 ESP x3 0W-40 is a gasoline engine oil, it's not Delvac 1. At least in the States.

It seems canada gets it easily. It can be had from evo lube supply for 55 a gallon. Maybe a mobil supplier would be better. @Foxtrot08 may know

A word of caution about Evo Lube Supply.

They have products listed as “in stock” on their website that haven’t actually been produced in a decade. And that I know for a fact they don’t have. They have seemed to just sort of put out every SKU they run across.

That being said. I’m not a Mobil distributor. But your local Mobil distributor should be able to get you drums of that product, currently. I’m not sure about in the future.

Rural king runs revolving specials on 5w-40 ESP 5gal pails. It's currently on doorbuster for $110. TSC also has it and may price match.

After $40 rebate, $14 per gallon is a screaming deal on ESP 5w40 and will keep that 6.7 happy long time.

Or you could consider Delo ADF and keep the DPF happy long time.

Thanks for the heads up

Yep I got a 5-gallon pail at my local farm store and submitted the rebate.

I don’t anticipate it getting below -30 here anytime soon so a 5W rated oil is just fine.
