It came with the tire already mounted on its own little wheel. I guess you pick up truck guys aren't familiar with these little itty bitty compact spare tires.

Why would this be a problem? I just carried my new compact spare tire and the old rim down to the tire store and had them put it on.. Wasn't any problem.

I had to run all over town a few years ago after I overnflated my virgin spare. It got a huge bulge when I went to check it. I went to one shop, then to the junkyard, then it just seemed noone wanted to mess with spares. Like there was some liability or difficulty with them. I ended up getting it fixed it wasnt nearly as simple as getting a regular tire.

You bought a 13 year old spare tire?

Why is that a problem? I still have the factory original 24 year old compact spare in my Accord. I would use it without hesitation if I had to. You're not supposed to go over 50 mph or drive long distances on a donut wheel anyway. They're basically meant to just get you home or to the nearest repair shop so you're not stranded in the middle of nowhere. So if you use it as intended, even if it did blow out, it wouldn't be catastrophic.

I drove around on the 23 year old donut spare from my volvo.

It's way better to check on the thing in your trunk annually and make sure it has air and no funny "golf balls" sticking out the sidewall.

If it blows between your changing location and the nearest tire store, drive 10 mph on the rim. Wreck it. You can get another from the junkyard.
