Where can I buy GEARS?

I'm working on a little project and I want to build my own gearbox that connects the output of 2 small engines to one slower output shaft. The problem I'm finding...nobody sells generic "gears". I can find pulleys of every size, chain drives in every pitch, bearings in every diameter, and preassembled gear boxes, but no gears.

I'm looking for some steel gears with either standard size shafts or standard size holes in the center just like a pulley, in different sizes. Does anybody sell such a thing, or am I gonna have to start taking things apart to steal gears?

Depends how big the gear set are that you need.

Meccano make some readily available gears and stuff, as do lego...but they aren't really that large, or capable of doig real work.

If you can settle with straight cut (noisy) gears, many local engineering outfits can make them for you, and it shouldn't cost inordinately.

That might be an interesting way to have a variable displacement engine setup - two engines geared together.
