Wow, I guess I had it good. While I liked Carson, I grew up with 4 1/2 channels: ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and one independent station. I say 4 1/2 because we didn't really count PBS as a channel!!
Where I lived you had to have a good antenna to get 3 channels. Cable saved us, lol. It's hard to believe how much TV has changed since the good ol days...
These guys make it obvious why my mother always complained about Eddie Murphy and the like having to swear to be funny.
3?! I only had 2 growing up in the middle of ND. We finally got a rotory antenna, and was able to get the 3rd station (ABC) when I was in my teens. However, you had to wait 5 minutes while the antenna turned on the roof. We also got a VCR when I was a Sr. in high school.
Three channels plus a UHF channel that was barely viewable. But we watched it anyway. I remember when Dad brought home a console black/white TV. It was awesome.
The neighborhood kids gathered at Louie's house to watch The Wizard of Oz for the first time in color. The witch was much scarier in bright green. I could barely watch it I was so scared.

You laugh!!! My brother and I were serial dial spinners and we stripped the dial on our RCA. My dad refused to get it fixed and we turned the dial with a pair of channel locks for 5 years before the tube went out!
