When the battery is under the passenger seat

My last German car was a '74 Super Beetle. The best mechanic I know won't work on BMW's. Beyond the DIY challenges, they just don't seem to ve reliable, which is high in my priority list.

Can't fit a battery under the seat in my German car, the Cayman.
That's where they stick the BCM.

In the Cayman, it's not an issue.
In the Boxster, where the convertible top's drain ports might one day get plugged up, it's a HUGE problem.
Water pools up under the seat, and then the BCM drowns, with corrosion on all the wiring connection terminals, and the BCM dies a horrible death.

Changing the battery in the Cayman is easy peasy.
Just did it a couple months back.

You want to have a hard time replacing a battery, go buy yourself a Honda Pacific Coast.
That was never a fun time replacing and servicing.

Don’t the colleges charge per credit?
Just the rent and living expenses more that saved the cost of the car.

Texas A&M is not a straight line as far as credit hours - just as an example

Today's tuition

If you take 8 hours tuition is $4,365 take 12 it is $5,775, take 16 it is $5,775.

The fees are also not dependent of how many hours so taking a full load + VS slacking off really adds up.

My daughter had some credit from duel high school / college courses + she took some summer classes at the community college that were fully transferable.

She got a 4 year degree in 3 and also was Magna cum laude.

My 2003 Tahoe had the battery under hood - driver side front easy to access -

My 2007 Tahoe still had a battery tray in the same location, I use to keep a spare battery in it - but they moved the battery to the passenger side under the hood but way up in the very back of the engine bay - a total PITA to lift out of.

I let younger people do the batter replacement now -

You don’t need to remove the seat. Put it all the way forward and tilt the back forward. The battery compartment is exposed. It’s a pain because the batteries are big and heavy. Don’t forget to hook up the vent hose.
How do you pull it forward with a dead battery?

You do need to remove the seat. The AC piping is on top of the battery and to remove that, you need wide access. And there is not enough opening to slide the battery out when the seat is in its place. Believe me, I have tried.

It would be interesting to see how many know what A&M stands for…

So, he works for a company that could not make a vehicle like that, complaining about the company that could make it?
Oh, i don't know. The fact Toyota went to BMW for this isn't proof of any kind Toyota can't a great drivers car. Additionally, the video does give BMW credit for making excellent driving cars. But the the premise isn't driving comparison, more-so the complexity of the work being done on the door.

Today the letters have no official meaning-

Founded in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas

If you see someone wearing a Texas A&M T-shirt good chance they went to Texas A&M university

If you see someone wearing a University of Texas T-shirt good chance they went to Walmart!

A number of the Mercs have TWO batteries, so make sure you are chasing the correct one. The big one is for starting while the smaller one serves the instruments, computers, controls, etc. Had some crazy things happen to my Merc while driving. Had already replaced the main battery and had a good read. Found the smaller battery was failing. Both are AGM. Replaced the smaller one with similar sized/AH motorcycle battery. Much cheaper and resolved issues.

The ac piping is a plastic panel that lifts off. There are cuts in the carpet that are a guide to further cut the carpet to peel it back to expose the plastic cover. Can you hook up a battery jumper or another vehicle to the remote battery posts under the hood? To move the seat up? Check out BenzWorld or MBWorld blogs for info.

I saw the video. Maybe BMW didn’t want standard rattling package that comes with Toyota?

I have seen people cut the carpet. I don't do that to my cars and I find such mutilation abho
Can you plug a battery in through the cigarette lighter port?
Didn't try that. It has a connection under the hood but the car wasn't allowing the charger to charge the battery. The jump starter was draining quite quickly and couldn't turn the engine. But it had enough juice to allow to move the seat.

In hindsight, I probably should have bought a corded jump starter instead of the 1,000 amp jump starter.

You have to cut the carpet to get the battery out. It’s designed that way. Carpet lays back down and ac duct goes over it, plus it’s under the seat.
