When Synthetic Oil Burns...

This forum is completely awesome. I've been reading posts on here for quite a while now and have decided to take the plunge. I read all the info on the home page and did pretty well on the Q&A haha. I am also curious for an oil recommendation, but I've seen lots of those recently am pretty stubborn, so I doubt I would break my habits. Though, I would value any opinions.
Anyway, here is my current curiosity:
I read in another forum that synthetic oil should never be used in a motor that burns oil because when it burns, it forms hard, glass-like deposits in the combustion chamber. I read this recently. I tried the search function and google and haven't found anything. Of course, I could have missed things.
I was wondering whether you knowledgeable and well-read folks could shed some light on this. I also intend to keep searching for information about this, but as I figure, this is a great resource.

Nah, it just creates a vacuum in your pocketbook when you put syn in an oil burner.

Not true at all. Keep in mind most oils considered synthetic are still petroleum based the properties (in general) are close. Well processed petroleum oils are actually cleaner burning because more negative byproducts like waxes and sulfur are mostly removed.


As Brons2 says, if you have a serious "burner", you probably don't want to spend the extra $$ on "synthetic". It really depends on how much oil you lose per 1k miles. I would try to get the problem fixed if it is feasible.

Mobil had a video up somewhere showing the minimal residue left behind by their oil being burned off. it was interesting to see but i can't seem to turn it up now, sorry.

Try a search of deposits in Mazda rotary engines. Oil is injected into combustion chambers for lubrication in rotaries.

Maybe there was a reason I couldn't find anything about this in the first place... Thank you all very much. You have raised good points.
As far as getting the problem fixed, I don't use snythetic oil, and with 146K miles, my Colorado hasn't burned a a lick of oil. Knock on wood.
