When should you replace a OLM

if it is a chemical sensor, perhaps there is a need. if it is an algorithm, there is no need to...

The Oil Life Monitor is not a sensor. Nothing ever touches your oil and tells you when to change it based on its physical properties. No additional parts are involved. That's why there's no service interval for it.

An Oil Life Monitor is a series of data points and calculations done by the computer to determine a good interval to change your engine oil. There's nothing to change unless the manufacturer has a software update that can be installed.

Whether or not you should change your oil based on the advice of the OLM is a topic of fierce debate that I will not discuss. I will only point out that I've never heard of anyone experiencing premature engine failure due to lubrication problems resulting from following the OLM and specifications in the manual for type and grade.

Do you mean how often will the OLM call for an oil service?

If you have a GM vehicle, the service interval can be as low as 2,000 miles to as high as 12,500 miles. If it does not reach 0% within one year, you still need to change the oil and reset the system.
