When does having a million dollars not make you rich?

I live in the Midwest where the cost of living is pretty low and taxes are not too bad. I have no mortgage, car payment, or credit card debt. I've been retired for two years and live on my modest Gov't pension. I have a modest TSP(401 K equivalent) which I have not touched since retiring but no where close to 1 mill.

For me personally, 1 million would make me feel rich and I could live very comfortable on it since I do fine on my pension alone.

Wealth is all relative and different for each person.

Down here in South Carolina a million dollars is actually pretty decent. I bought 1.5 acres of land in the rural area of Anderson with water and septic already in place for $9,000 and had my 30X40 home built on the land for $95,000. I am not in debt and I make only $46,000 a year.

$9k for developed land? As in, trees removed, land somewhat leveled? And a septic and a well? That's a crazy deal. Septic alone is like $20k--last summer I paid $1,400 just for a septic plan. You did good on this one.
