When do you usually stop mowing in the fall?

When the grass no longer needs regular mowing I switch over to the "as needed " schedule to keep the leaves mulched . I never really stop altogether .
Where do you live?

Mid November, is the last cut of the lawn. At that point I winterize the mower and change the oil, so it is stored with clean fresh oil over the winter months. I've been doing this for decades now.

That’s the main reason I’m asking. I’m trying to decide when to change my oil. I think I’m going to start writing this stuff down.

My mowing grass ends with the first frost, but I have to mulch leaves and usually finish them about Christmas. Located in South Ms.

Have a 5.5" rain deficit where I live in New York now. Grass has been dormant for quite some time. Some areas didn't make it and died. Raccoons came in lookin for grubs, and dug up all the dead areas for me ( less work for me when I re-seed. LOL ) There were no grubs, I treat the lawn for that. Anyway, normally the end of November is last of grass cutting, but it's been so dry, I'm not too concerned about it. Same thing happened last year. Very dry in August & September. Messed up the lawn good. Came back good in the spring of 25', lotta rain.,,but then the drought hit again. Lawns are a PITA. I do have a sprinkler system, but the town raised the water rates too high. Can't afford to use it. One year I paid over $900 bucks for 6 months of water use. That was the end of the sprinklers. We'll be moving anyway, The system is in place. Good selling asset :)......plus the Natural Gas fueled Whole House Kohler Generator added to the sprinkler system. We'll do fine on the sale. New construction house in 2016 to boot on an acre lot. This place is our ticket out of New York. GOOD RIDDANCE NEW YORK. Taxes here are INSANE !!!! Higher than California !!!!

I was always told mowing season ends on September 1st everywhere so that’s what I go by. Anything I can do to not have to mow works for me lol. Dad still keeps mowing till the end of September or beginning of October. For me if I’m mowing the mower or any lawn tools don’t come out after August 31st.

My backyard needs mowing right now . Front is ok for another week since we aren't getting any rain . Daytime temps in the low 90's . Mowing season is far from over . Just slower .

I'm not going past November. I have prehistoric sized maple leaves by the tons. So I go by how many leaves on the lawn, and is the grass growing.

Last year I cleaned my gutters 2x. It was very strange. Normally I have a lot of maple leaves in the gutter. Last fall there was 99% maple helicopters. They were lined up all the same way with the seed end down, like they were neatly stacked/nested for shipping. Very strange?

I have been raking/mowing/blowing with a lower end battery blower. It is a lot of work. I think I need to go to the dark side and by an expensive gas blower. Then again for the cost of a higher end one, maybe the electric back pack ones are gaining parity with the gas? But probably not....... unless I spend a ton of $$$$$$$$$$$$

I'm north of Seattle aways about 50 miles

When I had a house I would mow right up until November most years. I never wanted to have tall grass when the snow started to fall, I had heard that was bad for it. I used to be very proud of my lawn care ability actually. Here’s a picture of one of my lawns:

My lawn usually stops needing a mow around end of October. But I use the mower to mulch the fallen leaves. Problem is that I have 2 pear trees in my front yard. These trees drop their leaves very late in the season. So I could be running the mower on Christmas morning.

I started a fire under my ZT mower one year.

I'm like: "What's that smell?"

It was so dry and enough dry stuff under the mower, and sparks from rocks on blade was all it took. I've stopped mowing a chunk of my property it's just too dry. The irrigated front lawn, still 1-2/week for awhile.

Some rain coming. I think.

Havent mowed in 3 weeks. front yard is mostly dead with a few weeds popping up,
back yard the deer are keeping it trimmed. (3-6 deer daily)

Pixel 10 pro xl.. its actually full dark out at 3am there. The giant lightball in the back is the neighbors new LED downlight to the eye its only bright directly under it.. esp. compared to the old merc. halide light he had.

the nightvision on the Unifi G6 PTZ from another night 9 deer (4 in pic)
their fur does odd things absorbing the IR so they look like ghost deer /artifacting.

I am in the Metro Detroit area. I stop mowing after I've got all of the leaves handled for the season. (Never ending battle). And then maybe once after my cleanup depending on how the lawn is growing.

No set time, but HOPEFULLY I'd be able to get a nice, short cut right before the first frost of the season. With that said, I'll mow if it needs it until it goes dormant or I have to do some sort of leaf control.
