When being green makes no sense

I received this coupon in the mail from my local waste company. I have had a used motorcycle tire in my shed for a while and thought I can dispose of it now. I drive over to the local transfer station and tell the woman in the booth that i have one used motorcycle tire and hand her the coupon. She tells me the coupon is for car tires only and I can just throw away the motorcycle tire. I can do here for $11.65 if I want. I said no thanks and drove home. I removed the tire from my trunk and tossed it in my garbage bin. I wasted gas and time trying to dispose of it properly. Before you tell me the coupon says passenger vehicle tires. One would think a motorcycle tire would fall into the same category?

I bet if you said it was from a car they would have believed you.
That's what I would have done. The OP was being honest, but it just made things complicated. When I once worked for a tire and lube, we sent any kind of tire to the recycler. Bicycle, go-kart, golf cart... even 'gatorbacks' people picked up off the road. They (the recyclers) never refused to accept what we had.

That’s asinine. These are the same people that print save the trees on a piece of paper. 🙄

I would have asked her to explain the difference in this tire and a passenger vehicle tire, other than the size. Passenger vehicle tires come in vastly different sizes as well. What’s the parameters that they’re setting?
I would have probably thrown a quote from “A Christmas Story” into my argument as well.
“What’s the difference? It’s round! It had once been made of rubber!”

Gee......what we gripe about on here. Before I go outside and yell at the clouds-I will say the following. You have to have rules because many break them, including some on here who posts about "gaming the system" on various programs, rebates, etc. They are probably trying to discourage businesses from dropping off tires-like semi retreads and the like.

@HemiBenny -I spent over 30 years in the print industry. I can tell you first hand that trees are a renewable resource.
If you have time ( and apparently you do) look up Forest Service Council or FSC programs.

Yes, what we gripe about on here. You’re quite the expert at griping about things that’s none of your business. (The kumbaya crowd, as you call them, and their older cars.)
He has a legitimate gripe. He’s trying to do the right thing, yet he’s told to toss it in the trash because of two stupid words, “Passenger Vehicle.” It’s a tire! It’s a stupid rule! So instead of accepting a tire that’s smaller than a passenger vehicle tire, they’d rather it go to a landfill. That’s asinine!
The argument that you’re making about rules makes no sense. He’s trying to properly dispose of a single tire. He’s obviously not a business trying to dump tires using a coupon. 😂

And yes, I do know that trees are a renewable resource, but it doesn’t change the fact that printing “Save the trees” on paper is ironic.

I will see your stupidity and raise you. Property tax here includes a line item for recycling - so we can drop off our trash and other things. There now sending police to check ID's on entrance to ensure your a county resident. I asked one - what are you going to do when the guy with the wrong papers just throws there trash in the ditch? No intelligent answer.

As a county taxpayer I suggest we let people throw there trash away rather than throw it in the ditch, or used oil down the storm drain, or now a motorcycle tire in a landfill that will over time float to the surface (why they don't want them in the landfill).

Government is the stupidest organization in existence.

@CKN

Based on the OP’s post, and others after, what do you find so offensive? Why do you think we are so wrong in thinking this is beyond ridiculous? You respond in a derogatory way and say that we’re griping. Well, we should be griping! @Finklejag was trying to do the right thing, and something as simple as two words on a coupon has him denied. Common sense should prevail here, but it doesn’t. They tell him to toss it in the trash. Perfect! Another tire in the landfill! It’s a tire! It’s smaller than the ones they’re accepting! What’s the difference?
Imagine going to recycle aluminum cans, but they have to be 12oz cans. 16oz or 16.9oz cans aren’t allowed. How stupid would that be?

You stated that I obviously had time to look at things, so I decided to spend my time calling you out. If you’re happy accepting the status quo, no matter how ridiculous, that’s fine, but don’t “gripe” when others aren’t happy with it and challenge it.

Anyone else notice how grumpy and easily offended people are on this forum these days? It seems many threads turn into two people trying to be alpha over the other.

I would be upset as well if that tire wasn’t accepted and I was told to throw it away after trying to do the right thing.

Maybe it’s because I read the post office thread before this that I’m feeling this way.

The other guy makes me grumpy, sometimes. I’m not really offended. 😉

If he wants to mention me in a post, as he did in this thread, I’ll kindly respond. He could have made a civil post, but as usual, his first two sentences set the tone for the rest of it.
I don’t know, my mood wasn’t the best last night, that probably didn’t help things.

Please don't let this forum become Reddit! It is the last one on the internet that isn't quite there yet!
