Wheeler Dealers Back October 4th

I caught onto the show late, but have been enjoying the reruns. It's the only "garage" show that appeals to me. I don't care about some celebrity's pimpmobile, impractical makeovers, or the more personality-driven reality-type shows in the American Chopper vein.

The bits in the garage are the best part. Edd is right. If Velocity wants to cut back on those, in favor of the painfully fake negotiation segments, or other stuff like that, then it doesn't understand the core appeal of the show.

Well, that didn't seem all that different to me, but I guess we'll have to see what a normal-length episode is like, and how they proportion the segments.

I'm not familiar with the new guy, but he seems fine. Edd probably has better t-shirts, though.

I hadn't checked back on this thread. I was out of town as it came out.

It's not bad. Of course, oilBabe likes Edd better. She says Ant puts her to sleep.

I still fast forward through the Mike segments.

I don't think Ant is as easily pushed around as was Edd. He may be a better match up against Mike.

The second clip gives me some hope. While I know how a turbo works, it was good to see one being torn down.

I do like that he used the colored china markers (or whatever) to draw the diagram, as crude as it may be.

As an American, it will be interesting to listen to Ant describe things. Edd had a way with words while he was doing the work. Such as describing something fixed as tiggedy (or tickety) boo.

Sometimes, I think I was born on the wrong continent during the wrong generation. Depending on whose text you read, I'm either the last of the baby boomers or the first of Gen-X.

And sometimes I feel exactly that way

I was impressed by Ant. Would appear the Edd worshippers don't watch The Walking Dead, where main characters die, replaced by new ones all the time.

Don't get me wrong, I like Edd. I think it was good for Edd to self delete himself from the show. When you watch earlier episodes and compare to his last episodes, it looks like the thrill was gone.

There is something to be said for taking oneself out of the game if your heart is no longer in it.

I wish Edd nothing but the best and hope he finds a gig that restores the thrill.

I like the new show. The mechanic is focusing on the repairs with very little of the other reality show nonsense that is in vogue these days. The new mechanic gives the impression that he is enjoying himself (more so than Edd the last few years) and doing his best to explain the nuances of the repairs he is doing. Edd could be the voice of doom at times (what kind of problems have you brought me this time, Mike?) at least for now the new guy is not as pessimistic.

I will keep watching as long as it keeps up the way it has been going the first few episodes.
