What's your favorite ATF ?

I don't have a Mercon V application in my driveway, but here are some good products I've found.

1. The Warren Unilube Coastal ATF+4 from AutoZone. It's licensed, and the shifts in my 46RE are little less jerky than with the Supertech ATF+4 I used before. I was not expecting a difference.

2. The cheapest Dexron VI I can find. They all seem interchangeable. Probably Supertech for most of you. Coastal for me, since I can no longer get to Wal-Mart easily.

3. Valvoline MaxLife Dex/Merc. I used it last weekend on a 2002 Honda Civic. Cheaper and better than Z1, with absolutely no change in shift feel. At $5 per quart, it's a bargain. It's probably even cheaper for a lot of you.

(dexron)
I have used Wal-Mart and Pep-Boys brand with no problems. I would rather buy Valvoline, but it costs to much and is hard to find. I have also used Castrol, but I think it smells bad.

In Mercon V, my favourite brand (at least for Ford products) is Motorcraft, but I have used Castrol with good results. I've recently latched on to some Valvoline, too. I like those 2 fluids as they both state specifically that they are "approved by Ford" for Mercon V applications. Most other fluids merely say that they are "recommended for" or "suitable for", or other similar language. Maybe it's just semantics, but it makes me feel warmer and fuzzier...

Redline D4 is one of my favorites and the D6 is proving to be just as good in other applications spec'd for a Dex VI type fluid.

All of my vehicles (except for the Lexus) spec either Dexron II or Dexron III.

I use either Pennzoil or Super Tech Dexron equivalent ATF; which ever is readily available.

+1 on that. I have been very happy with the performance of this fluid, even on 102 degree days at high altitude and WOT at 80mph up the mountains in CO.
