im looking to buy a flatbed type trailer for hauling quads, taking stuff to the dump etc. i dont want something someone cobbled up in there back yard. so that leaves zieman and carson mainly. a single axle would work but i have to unhook it to get a quad out of my truck. so im looking at longer ones with 2 axles.
i want full size tires as ill be pulling it on rocky dirt roads
used trailers are super pricy. often as much or more than a new one. i looked at one today. has 4 rotten tires, rotten wood and out of registration.dude wants $1000 firm and wont negotiate at all. add up new tires and back fees and its up tp $1400 +total cost with bad wood.

a new one same model is $1400 out the door. but its a 2 month wait while they build it.

I just went through the same thing! I wanted a 5x8 or 6x12 enclosed trailer for one atv. I searched craigslist, eBay, local ads, etc. Every one of them was used, trashed to within an inch of it's life, needed tires, lights, etc and they wanted between $2-3 THOUSAND for them! Then I'd have to put new tires on, wiring, lights, etc on top of that!

I ended up finding a brand new Atlas 6x10 (wierd size I never heard of - but it turned out to be nice!) - 15" radials, full LED lights, side door, roof vent, diamond plate front guard, rear jacks, D-ring tie downs - fully loaded.

I had to drive 3 hours one way to get it, but I only paid $2599 and it was BRAND NEW.

It was worth the drive as I didn't buy someone else's POS.

Chris,
wow, call around and drive down to colton or riverside. where you are in apple valley, trailers are probably in high demand.

I ran into the same problems. Ended up with a new one, a 16 foot car hauler, double axle, 4 wheel brakes, 5 chrome 15" wheels cheaper than I could find used. Works great for 4 quads all on their wheels - no standing them up. I got it from a dealer local to me built to order (shortened form 18 to 16 foot) in 2 weeks.

Hope this helps.

ive searched craigs and the prices are the same "down the hill" too. maybe drive around neighborhoods looking lol.

bought my open dovetail 6x12 used, good condition for $500 last week i picked up a almost new 5x10 open dovetail for $300.. I just wait and jump on deals as they come up.

It's that time of year. People get a bug up their [censored] about getting a new riding mower, fixing up the yard, buying ATVs, etc. People selling trailers know it.

Warm weather equipment is best bought when the weather is cold.

That's The type if Duty My uncle in Rural So.ID uses an old Horse Trailer for. it's smallish one, maybe more of a Pony trailer, but it stays Parked out in the yard and they put their household trash in there until it gets Full, and then haul it to the dump. Don't know Pricing on those though.

edit:
actually it may be Bigger than i think, i'm pretty sure it also gets used to haul his Mule when he goes elk hunting....

I feel for you. I spent a long time looking at a bunch of junk before I bought my car trailer. It was solid but needed a few small easy fixes but I am happy with it. Keep hunting and ask around and you will find a deal. It just takes patience. Good luck!

You may want to contact seller to get as many pictures as possible before making 500 miles round trip.

I hear you on used trailer prices. They are insane around here. When I bought my trailer I looked at MANY used ones but ended up buying new. Some people seemed to think that by taking a rusted out boat trailer and screwing in some sheets of plywood they had an $800-$1200 "utility" trailer. Lots of the other trailers had flat well-used and non-road worthy tires, no lights or lights that didn't work, and rusty frames with rotted decking. For the money I would've spent fixing up those trailers I bought a brand new one.

Car dollys are the same. A new one is $999 or $1299 with brakes. 20 year old used ones are $700 missing fenders and lights. $500 gets you a home made one that doesn't swivel and needs straps.
