Well got curious...Castrol's Product Data Sheet says Syntec 5w50 has low temp cranking visc(cpMax) of 6600 at
-30...guess what the 5w30 spec sheet says...????????????

6600 at -30...both specs are degrees C...However...Low temp pumping visc is 40000 for 5w30 at -35...6000 for 5w50 at -35..

By the way 5w40 and 5w50 specs for above are the same...

I could think of worse oil and weights to be running...but I also could think of better...INTRODUCE YOUR FRIEND TO BITOG!

Well BITOG isn't for everyone...here's what you do...obtain Syntec 5w50 and Syntec 5w30...leave both in freezer overnite in a clear plastic bottle...you will only need an equal amount of each...make sure bottles are exactly the same...exa. two empty water bottles of same brand...invite buddy over...for a pepsi light...show buddy results of test...

Iam in Florida now, But I was in Pennsyvania mountains the first 35 years of my life, where it got cold enough to stick to metal. I was into trucking and dealt alot with 15w40 and straight 40 and will tell you that the fuel gelling became alot bigger problem than the oil. We kept trucks outside with plugged in block heaters(the coolant was heated) well below 0 and the oil never froze up.
