I have the Canadian Version of that Shell Mastercard that comes in two different "Flavours"
I get $0.03/L ($0.13/U.S. Gallon) discount and I get 1% of anything else I put on the card and the purchase of that gas back.
All accumulated to the end of the year and they credit my account. Last year I got back over $400!
The other flavour you can have is the same Gas discount but you get Double Air Miles.
I just use my Air Miles card with this and get half the Air-Miles!

Shell MasterCard in Canada is from Bank of Montreal (BMO). It's $0.03/L x 4.4 Litres to a U.S. Gallon is how I calculated it. ($0.13/Gallon)
Plus I get back another 1% of that purchase because it's put on the credit card.
I use the card everywhere to rack up the 1% cash back and for work stuff so I got back over $400 last year!

I'm forever switching for the better card. This is the best one I found so far... I used to have $0.10/L off of Canadian Tire Fuel but I got worse mileage and they had lots of Manganese in their fuel causing deposits as it was showing up in my UOA's.
Switched to Shell and got better mileage/performance and UOA's!

I like my BP card the best, they give 5% on BP gasoline(unlimited) 2% on dining and 1% everywhere else, it takes no time to run up 2500 points, and trhe will issue you a BP gas card, a check or donate the money to conservative(econuts). Its the best no hassle deal. I have had the best luck with it so far.
Can you by 87 octane with this BP card ?
HSBC Platinum Reward Mastercard is the best of all cards I have, the cashback is 5% for gasoline and auto related (anything at autoparts stores) and groceries and drug stores, 1% everything else. But they only issue cashback in the form of credit to your account once a year.
Chase BP card has been no hassle for me. 5% of on gasoline (actually anything purchased at a BP station, capped at $25 rebate per month), 2% on dining and travel, 1% everything else except purchases at other gas stations.
You can cash out anytime you have $25 in credit, as a gift card at BP or Checks. I've always taken the check and had no issues...

Steve, where do you get this from? CT buys gas from Imperial, or whoever they don't blend anything. Why would it have Manganese in it?

I have an Amex card that gives me 3% back on gasoline and 1% back on other purchases. I think it goes to 2% after 8 grand or so.
Discover offers 5% back 3 months out of the year.

I'm using Discover during the summer for the 5%, but i recently gassed up at Costco which only takes AMEX. Given that the price was 18 cents a gallon lower than the surrounding stations, I didn't miss the additional 2% on the rebate.

I understand that but if you look at the additive package in the winter time it contains a lot of Mag. in it with whatever CTC is adding to the base fuel from XOM.
I have the UOA from Terry's lab with his analysis telling me that was in it. Didn't tell him what fuel station I was using either time just that I switched.

That's the one I have, but Citi/Shell recently changed the way they return the cash back. Used to be you got back whatever you spent, 1% on everything other than Shell gas, and 5% on Shell gas returned EVERY MONTH. Now it's .5% on everything else other than Shell gas and 5% on Shell gas. BUT, now you must first build up $25 in rebates before you can collect, and it is a max of $20 in rebates each month.
Like most things, not as good as it was but, still better than nothing if you have access to Shell gas at relatively reasonable prices.
All of them are getting more stingy with the rewards.

That's the one I have, but Citi/Shell recently changed the way they return the cash back. Used to be you got back whatever you spent, 1% on everything other than Shell gas, and 5% on Shell gas returned EVERY MONTH. Now it's .5% on everything else other than Shell gas and 5% on Shell gas. BUT, now you must first build up $25 in rebates before you can collect, and it is a max of $20 in rebates each month.
Like most things, not as good as it was but, still better than nothing if you have access to Shell gas at relatively reasonable prices.
All of them are getting more stingy with the rewards.
