So I bought a soda and candy bar at the circle k and for $4.09 and then I see another transaction. For $42.62. I'm sitting their thinking, maybe I bought gas, but looking at my credit card history it shows I just bought $92 worth of gas two days earlier and I don't see me chewing through that much in two days, nor could I even fit $42 in the mowers with gas as cheap as it is now. It's still a pending transaction, so maybe it will fall off in a couple more days. Also, I dont usually buy gas from circle k, but they almost never have receipt paper at the pump. I buy it all from buccees. How does an extra charge like this even happen? Edit: I bought $92 in diesel.

There is a motel I stay at that seems to always overcharge everyone, waiting on my bill to notify the cc company if it doesn’t match the receipt

I don't swipe my card though. I wonder if they still work when you use the tap. I'm trying to remember though, but I think it didn't go through the first time and he wanted me to insert the card. Nobody gives out receipts anymore either

Look, there are dishonest scum all over. Either it was a card skimmer, or a dishonest employee.

Years ago I had a waitress at a Bar steal my card number. It was easy to determine where the Credit Card info had been stolen, as I hadn't used that particular card anywhere else.

So again, if the charge is not legitimate, call your CC company right now. They have customer service reps available 24/7.

BTW, I get a receipt for EVERY transaction.

Everytime I do they say they can't do anything until it moves from pending to a posted transaction.

You legally have 30 days from your STATEMENT date to contest charges. So realistically you might have up to sixty days to straighten this out.

If you don't have weird pending charges from a 3rd party where you've never been I wouldn't worry.

I usually have to contest a charge a couple times a year. I think anymore than that and they start to look into it more. I believe it's actually 90 days. Years ago I had someone fill up their semi at a rotten Robbies with like $430 in diesel fuel.

Thats why at the end of the day If I used my card I go online and check the pending charges....If any issues I call them...

Charge at a gas pump has a different code than inside the store. The bank will be able to see that.

I had two $300 charges show up from the local Walmart I had visited the day before. I immediately called Discover card services and reported it. The nice lady on the other end said the charges had been manually keyed in and not from using a card. She removed the charges and sent a new card which arrived by Fedex the next day. Probably done by an office employee who had access to some payment information? Only real inconvenience for me was changing some automatic billing I had set up to the new number. I have alert notifications set low so I get a text on every purchase which helps me spot bogus activity quickly.

This used to happen when debit cards were used.
