Would a royal purple syncromesh work good? Mobil 1 is also an option I don't want to get something real hard to find.

The original owner changed it early once and put Dexron. It now has 42k. I should drain & fill this Summer with 9.3 pints Amsoil ATF or Torque-Drive ATD.
Rear Diff has Torco RGO Racing Gear Oil 85w-140 & their Slip-Lock.

Rear Diff has Torco RGO Racing Gear Oil 85w-140 & their Slip-Lock.
So I went with royal purple synchromax. Instantly shifted smoother and high rpm goes right in.

Quite frankly, it likely would have done the same with fresh fluid in it regardless of brand.
But hey, if you love Royal Purple now, perhaps you should run it in the engine

I have a Pontiac with an Isuzu tranny and originally the recommended fluid was 5w30. As I understand it, GM then changed it to Dexron 3, then Syncromesh, and then finally Manual Transmission Fluid which I believe is still the current OEM fluid for that MT2. What I have in it now is 1 qt. of RP syncromesh and the balance GM syncromesh. Switching from 5w30 to that got rid of the grinding into 1st, but in cold weather it will creep in neutral now presumably because this is thicker oil when cold.
That's kind of the GM way, you know, trying to go with newer and better fluids that are backwards-compatible whenever practical. If Saturn said no to Synchromesh it was probably just someone deciding it's too expensive to justify small if any benefit.

I changed the fluid 8,000 miles ago. It wasn't from having fresh fluid it was from having good fluid

No need to apologize overkill. Its all good. I actually used lucas semi syn atf had no difference from that to the old stuff. Fluid I drained today looked great its just not as adequate as a good fluid more specifically for mt. At least that is my story and I'm sticking to it.

RP Synchromesh is good stuff (T56 spec) and I have no doubt that it will serve you well
My initial response to you would have been different had I known you didn't have what I thought to be the original fluid in the trans, so yes, I do apologize, as I had thought we were dealing with the original GM fill, and not a more recently added lubricant.
I'm glad the results were significant for you. I had a similar experience going from "God knows what" to M1 ATF in the T5 in my Mustang. Instantly smoother shifts, particularly at higher RPM's. That fluid held up incredibly well until I managed to twist the yoke on the driveshaft and shift the guts of the tranny back 1/2" resulting in the failure of 2nd and 4th gear.
