What's a good under sink drinking water filter?

I have had really good results from Pure Water Products, based in Denton, Texas. They assemble water filtration systems and can build whatever you need. They even offer specialty filter cartridges that remove specific pollutants like lead or fluoride.
I bought one of their RO systems since I have a well and extra waste water means nothing . The system has worked great for 14 years with nothing more than filter and element changes.

I use the 3M system. Filters last 3 months and cost about $25 to replace (which is extremely easy). We have the system in place for 7 years now and are very happy with it.
I use the filter from Lowes/Home Depot, I get the sediment and charcoal filter (I think it's the GAC filter). I use it because my drinking water doesn't taste that good from the municipality.
If you need higher filtration you can get other filters that fit into the housing that will eliminate other contaminants just be aware that the smaller it filters the slower the water may come out of the faucet.

If you get a pump the RO systems are about 1:1 with wastewater. collect it in a barrel and water plants?
I waste more water with a flush of the toilet than I do drinking all day.
My next system will probably be something similar to this

The one usually used for a sprayer or soap dispenser..
my kitchen faucet can be pulled out into a sprayer.. saving that extra hole for my drinking water faucet.

I have used a Sears based system with filters changed at 6 months, Aquasana 3 filters stage at changed 6 months, and a with carbon ffilter changed at 12 months.
Here locally we have pretty good tap water from Lake Michigan, but based on my perssonal taste, the Aquasana would do for me.

We buy distilled water, no pollutants at all.
I have the under sink filter that HD or Lowes sells. It is a general filter (GAC1) and has a charcoal base in it as well. It is good for some sediment but it is not for taking lead or other things out I use it strictly for taste. The same housing can take more robust filters that filter out various contaminants. If you get too small of a micron filter it'll create a lower flow, I see no difference with the filter I have but it is there for taste and not contaminants. It is installed on my cold water side and gets changed out every 6 months or so.
Another option is a whole house filter that'll protect everything after it.
