I’d love to have a snap on code reader tuner reset tool . but can’t afford that so I’m looking for maybe up to $300 for a good reader scanner that can do other stuff hopefully to

I just bought an HPTuners MPVI2 and have been using their VCM Scanner software (requires Windows - I run Win10 in VM on a Linux host). For the money, it does more than any $300 scan tool I could find. Bidirectional communication, FTW.

It also has the ability to tune vehicles, which is what HPTuners is most known for, but I think the diagnostic ability of the tool is underrated.

Long time HPtuner user....Have a MPVI & MPVI2. The scan tool is awesome, But has to be configured correctly & works better on certain vehicles....Namely GM.

Long time Snap-on Scanner user, Have a MT2500 & Solus Ultra. GM & Ford coverage is outstanding. Chrysler support is good on the MT2500 but poor on the Solus Ultra.

I'm impressed with my stage 2 scanner i got from a snap on mobile truck dealer. The stage 3 is even better. Mine was $95 with a $50 gift card.

I have a Solus Ultra, and it takes the win for everything other than VW and VAGCOM, but cost is certainly a thing. Before the Ultra, I had incredible success with the Launch Tech Millennium M90. It is even capable of doing ABS actuation for bleeding, steering angle, engine, trans and body codes, live streaming and graphing, and a bunch of other things including mild alterations to stock ECU/PCM programming. Never had an issue, but wanted more for a 2019 Kona that my LOML decided she was set on.

I bought one of those $50 Autel units from Walmart, it’s surprisingly powerful. But for what’s “best” is going to depend on your vehicle(s). I’d love to get my hands on AlfaOBD, which is basically VAG-COM but for FCA vehicles.

I use a cheap bluetooth
I was able to get air bag codes, transmission codes and engine code on a 2013 Altima
Used it on Impala and Caravan
7.00 total.

For this cheap Bluetooth, I assume maybe a BAFX 34t5.. what software did you use?

Torque Lite? Pistorius? Something else (free) ?

I have a BAFX Bluetooth dongle that I use with Torque Pro - very good combination. I've also been told that the Veepeak Mini Bluetooth OBDII dongle along with Torque Pro is a great combination as well. I also use a Blue Driver Bluetooth dongle and app with great results too. They get used about evenly. I'm also learning how to use a Tech 2 clone I recently purchased for bidirectional use.

Well! Maybe I should upgrade to Torque Pro then.

I have the BAFX Bluetooth and sometimes hook it up to my car just t drive around and and see what it says as far as Vacuum etc. I also have a $20 Walmart unit for if instant and basic reading or clearing is needed (is faster than the Bluetooth.)

Torque PRO and a 3 dollar ebay BT dongle. I was able to read which cylinder was misfiring on a 3L Escape in real time. I tow with my supercharged 98 F150 and I have set up gauges on the pro app which show my tranny temp and IATs on one screen. Best 8 bucks total I ever spent.

I use Torque Pro also for $5 on the Google Play Store and the Fiat Advance add-on for $5 more. I bought the ELM327 BlueTooth adaper for $8. So all in for less than $20. I added the trans temp gauge from the app so I could accurately measure trans fluid temp during a drain/refill on my "lifetime sealed" autotrans.
