I was on a Facebook forum and see someone mentioned they sent me a message. I looked at Messenger on my computer and nothing there. Then I go on my phone and somehow find something known as "message requests" and see a dozen messages from the last 6 years I've never even known existed. What's a Message Request and why don't they appear on my computer in Messanger? I've also tried to send messages to people on Facebook and never get a reply. Now I know why.

There's a lot of features they restrict to only the mobile app. I comanage a business page and there are some parts of it that can only be managed from the mobile app. I don't like using facebook on the phone so I'm just unable to do that stuff.

When someone messages you who isn't your FB friend you get to "vet" them and decide if you want to communicate with them or not. Good feature for keeping spam and scams down.

But how do you "vet" them if you never get a message on Messenger when on the computer?
Well basically you can read the message without them knowing...so if you find the message is safe or you know the person then you can reply and move on. If you feel the message is scam or whatever then don't reply and they never know and you are protected. You can also go view their page etc to make your call. As far as how to vet them when you don't know - good point - just have to periodically check that "folder".

But the message never showed in Messenger on my computer until I went on the phone and accepted it there. Why can't they do the same on the computer?

You can use Facebook messenger on a desktop or laptop computer if that’s what this is about

You cannot use Facebook messenger on your cell phone web browser forced to download the app if you choose to use messenger on your cell phone

Facebook would really like you to use your phone. If you use it for business this could be a positive. Otherwise you're just an ant in their farm.

If you are on a desktop, using the web version of Facebook, go to your messages in the upper right corner. Clicky. You should see teh word "Chats" and all the messages you have from your friends and such. Now, above them, there are three dots. Clicky on those. You will see a menu come up. About half way down you wil see "message requests. Clicky. There you will see messages from people not on your friends list. I don't use the App, I always just use the web page version, even on my phone and Ipad.
