Hi i own 98 mustang gt with 146k miles, the car burn oils 5w30 with lucas, 10w30 with lucas, so I switch to 10w/40 maxlife with lucas and it reduce smoke alot, and redude burn oils too, I havent add any oil for over a week now, but I do like to try PP 10w/30 with lucas because I want extent the oils change up to 5k, should I stay with maxlife with lucas or PP with lucas ? thanks

With that many miles, forget the synthetics and forget the Lucas. Stick with one of the High-Mileage oils(Maxlife,Pennzoil HM, Castrol HM)and go from there. If you can live with putting in a quart of 10w-40 a week then do so. As the engine ages, you can always step up to 20w-50 HM.

I would avoid a 20w50 in a ford mod V8. They have very tight clearences. I would use the maxlife and just keep feeding it or start hunting for another engine. They are so plentiful and usually priced affordably its not worth getting into the engines.

You need to check 2 things.

1) does the oil have too much fuel dilution? Fuel pressure regulator may be bad.

2) PCV functioning properly? Also check for plugged up pcv hose.

If you find a problem with #1 or 2 and fix it, 10w-30 with no Lucas should perform well in your GT.

I doubt this particular engine has very tight clearances any more. I believe his location is Mississippi so 20-50 in a loose engine in that heat probably wouldn't be a bad plan to prolong the life a while.

I feel loosing power with 10w/40 maxlife with lucas. but Im not loose any oils for over 2 week now. I dont know what to do. I want the power lol but also that is good thinking that its not smoke or lose oils/

car smoke a little again, I havent add any oils for over 2 week now, and this never happent before , current use 10w/40 maxlife with lucas, im thinking running castrol high miles without lucas. any more suggest before I change oils agains ? thanks

I would try a high mileage oil without the lucas as you mentioned. I'm far from an expert but don't believe these oils are designed to be used with other additives like lucas. So you maybe doing more harm than good. Keep the updates coming...

10w40 sounds good to me. I would be most concerned about proper lubrication and not burning oil versus power at this point. Maxlife or any of the HM oils should be good.

First stop useing that Lucas stuff!!! Second do a 5 minute oil flush but do it for 30 minutes at about 1200RPM's! Start with the engine cold pour in the 5 minute oil flush or an entire can of B12. The B12 Chemtool is probably a better bet since it is much stronger! Buy yourself a some M1 15W50 and have a go at that. If that does not slow things down the next step is to try a SAE 50 or SAE 60 oil like VR1.

what is the purpose of doing the engine flush ? and why mobil 1 syn ? not high miles mobil 1 right ? full syn mobil 1 ?
