Maybe the K&N and rich condition was giving the smoke?

I doubt that but the K&N can dirty the MAF meters, which generally causes lean mixture...

With a V10 you have to remember there are 20 valve stem seals in play and with each slightly leaking there may not be any noticeable smoke vs say a 4cyl with only eight seals(and smoking noticeably)... Same applies to piston rings as well, can be slightly worn but make a BIG difference...

Since the oil was just changed, I'd start adding the same brand in 5W30 flavor to see if it helps(prob take at least the addition of two or three qt)... Oil passage size aren't even a consideration, ALL oils are 20X or more thicker when cold, if that was a problem every engine out there would be having problems...

I had a k&n filter on my mustang coat the maf with a light glaze of oil once, and the car ran funny. I didn't realize what had happened and started replacing stuff. I ended up with an maf tuned for 24 pound injectors and the running and idle issue was gone.
Never had a puff of smoke at start up though, that tells me valve seals but I'm not an expert.

Thanks for the the advice guys! I didn't take into consideration all the valve seals(there is 30, not 20 lol). Do you think its something I should be overly concerned about? I can run up a grade with 9k-10k hooked to her at 3500 rpm and it blows absolutely no smoke. She purrs like a kitten and has all the power I'll ever need! :-jammin I'll keep a close eye, and maybe switch to a high mileage blend next time. Sound good?

Merry Christmas everyone!

Look at it this way. Is it affecting how the engine runs,is it costing you money,is it broken?
If it ain't broke........

We here at bitog will pick every puff of smoke, every tick([censored] Mobil 1)knock and what have you to death, and get absolutely nowhere.
If all it takes is an oil change with different oil, perhaps a high mileage type,to perhaps fix your issue then what have you got to lose. It might work,it might not but I'm pretty sure it won't do any harm.

Merry Christmas.

Haha! I'm very meticulous and recognize every noise/rattle/smoke whatever. Glad I'm apart of a community that does the same!

As we say on FTE- Keep hanging around we love to spend your money on your truck
