My Wife's Dacia has a Nissan/Renault 900cc 3 cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 90bhp/99lbft and revs upto 6500rpm.

Nissan and Renault both specify a RN0710 oil. All RN0710 oils are *w30 and *w40 oils both synthetic and semi synthetic and meet either ACEA A3/B4 or ACEA C3.

Our Dacia being a 'budget' car specifies a *w40 or *w30 but says the oil should only meet ACEA A3/B4.

My Conundrum...

I've been stockpiling Fuchs XTL GT1 5w40 which is a lube that has a number of manufacturer approvals including RN0710 BUT... it's an ACEA C3 oil.

Now, Dacia's are sold and maintained at Renault dealers. I highly doubt I would run into any issues regarding warranty should it be picked up I was using the incorrect oil.

The car is a month old and I'm about to do a 1000mile oil change on it.

Would you take the risk and run the Fuchs, or would you run the Dacia specified oil?

For reference, if I was to use an A3/B4 lube it would probably be Castrol GTX Ultraclean GTX Semi-Synthetic 10w40 which meets ACEA A3/B4 and has RN0710 approval. It's £22 for 4 litres. I've been paying £26 for 5 litres for the Fuchs oil.

How big is the stockpile ?
I take it that the interim change is one that you are doing...no harm, no foul...just do it with the stash.

If you are providing oil for the dealer, then show them your logic, the fact that they are renault dealers, and that it's appropriate in "that car over there", and let them decide to pour it in. If they won't then choose the next step.

Had issues down here with the Renault Nissan ZD30 in that Nissan had some archaeic "not CG-4" Nissan problem dating back 20 years, and I was snookered until out of warranty...they even specified B4 in my manual, but for the European market only.

After some reading here:

https://www.oilspecifications.org/acea.php

and here:

https://www.oilspecifications.org/renault.php

and a couple other places, I think that the C3 is ok to use. It's still a long drain oil but is mid saps, where the A3/A4 are not referenced via saps at all. The Renault specification seems to also suggest it is ok.

Agree with speaking with the dealer...if you can find a person that understands what you are talking about.

The stockpile is currently around 30 litres, it's not the end of the world if I decide not to go with it in the Dacia but it would be nice to have a one size fits all approach for all the cars I maintain minus my Volvo (I'm a little twitchy about putting a *w40 weight in it when it has a variable oil pump and it specifies a 0w20 oil). The Fuchs can go in our Defender, my Fathers BMW 320d and my Mothers Suzuki Jimnny.

I would like to pick and stick to an oil for the full time we own the car for no other reason that I have a few OCD tendencies.

I really like the Fuchs stuff, I'm sure you of all people will appreciate the reasonable list of manufacturers approvals it has including LL04 and Dexos2. It's a great universal PCMO. I have no doubt it would be a great choice for the Dacia and will survive the 12,000mile/1 year OCI interval with ease.

I may try contact Dacia first, explain the situation and see what they return with. I don't intend on using a Renault dealer for servicing but a quality independent and I will supply the parts. Issue arises when I need to take the car in for warranty work.

As I said above, I have no doubt the Fuchs would be suitable for the Sandero and generally I consider any ACEA C3 oil to be suitable for an application that calls for ACEA A3/B4.

I think the only reason Dacia calls for an ACEA A3/B4 lube as opposed to RN0710 is because it's a 'budget' car where people want to pick up the cheapest oil possible. 10w40 ACEA A3/B4 oils are generally the cheapest oils on the shelves here in the UK.

Hi!

ACEA C3 and A3/B4 require the same wear levels, and have the same HTHS.
If I would like to quibble, due to their differents rates of additives, C3 is better with low sulfur gasoline, whereas A3/B4 is better with high sulfur gasoline.

In my opinion, Dacia's manual was made from an older copy / paste than Renault's manual :-) ACEA C3 still didn't exist at this time :-)

I would put any ACEA C3 oil in this engine.

The title topic made me look. Although I don`t have any idea on an answer the topic drew my attention.

RN0710 isn't a very demanding spec. Not a fan of Fuchs for no valid reasons, but I'd say use the C3 oil, should be good enough.

This Fuchs oil is perhaps within the cheapest independent shops can get in bulk around here, cause I've seen it put in many many different cars, so why not.

Has anyone ever been denied a warrantee claim due to the wrong oil?
I'm doubtful.
Low oil level, EXTREMELY dirty oil perhaps, but not just too heavy or to light a weight.

My 2¢

Right I looked too but didnt really have an informative answer, so waste of time.

I was only partially being snarky.
