What fluid should I use in my 09 rabbit manual trans it's a 02j trans. I have seen mixed info online the car has 124,000 miles so I'm sure it's due. I appreciate any advice you can give.

What are the recommended fluids in your manual? Start with those certifications and then find a product that meets them. Always start with correct spec and viscosity, then pick based on whatever base oil or other special features you enjoy in your lubricants.

VW doesn't tell you because they believe it is a lifetime fluid.

I have used Amsoil MTG on my old MK4 02J transmission without issue. But since then VW has been going low viscosity for fuel economy, even though the 2.5L motor isn't that relatively fuel efficient to begin with

Redline.

When I had a car with an O2j in my pre-BITOG days I ran Delo conventional and it was good even in the winter in Toronto. I can't remember the weight but most likely whatever weight was specified.

It's going to smell burned and be gross. I was changing it at home and my Dad who was passing by even commented on how burnt it smelled. It made a pretty big difference in shifting and my car had 200k km at the time.

Usually it's 75w90 GL-4

But VW has gone to straight 75W for so-called fuel economy.

Any proof associated with the things you've read, aside from speculation? Do you need "better" wear protection? Is your car tuned? Do you race it?

Don't put too much stock in the VW forums. Most don't know their [censored] from a hole in the ground, and will tell you to run Liqui Moly because "it's the best."

The VW oil will protect well, give you buttery smooth shifting, and cost less than anything else.

2L will do it.

There was one thread on VW vortex that had uoa from Blackstone of different oils used and the g070 caused the most wear. So that particularly was pretty convincing. It will be tune in the coming months as well so some goo protection would be nice. I've read alot of guys run synchromesh. Any thoughts on that?

Coming from a person that says K&N Air filters is a quality product, not sure if you're opinions can be taken seriously.

People on the MK7 forums complain about the factory gear oil. And the European car owners love their Motul products.

Pennzoil Syncromesh is no more viscous than the VW oil. Give it a try if you want.

I'd be interested to see that thread. Was it the same car? What was the methodology? What was the actual difference? Did he call it "double wear" when it was 6ppm vs 3ppm?
