What to pay?

I'm kinda in the market for a newer full size pickup. Something with AC,Fuel injection,V8, stickshift and 4x4.

A friend did some horse trading and ended up with this. 1990 Dodge 150. 5.9L F.I. gasser, granny low 4 speed, 4x4, brand new tires and wheels, cold AC and a short bed..

Truck was originally a Forestry truck. Has 183K on it but it seems to run fine.

I'm really considering it. It's definatly what I'm looking for. Stick shifts are pretty rare out here.

The passengers door has a dent but it still opens. Dr door hinges are worn, has a few dings and what not. No rust Ca truck. Reciently passed the Ca emission test.


It's pretty clean considering it's age. not even a scratch in the bed. Definatly a different looking /unusualtruck.

You do realize that it will have a relatively low top speed, and it won't be able to pass many gas stations...?

That truck was built well for its original purpose, as a forestry truck. Now, it would be best used as a farm truck, or as an off-road truck.

Well my currant truck is lucky to get 8mpg with it's 4.30 gears.It will still go 90 mph. I was planning on using it as an off road truck. The green ones has 3.23 gears so it would do fine on the hwy. Plus with F.I. and faster gears it should get better than 8mpg.

It's definatly an upgrade for my currant pickup.

With 3.23 gears and 30 inch diameter tires ( a guess), you would be about 2200 rpm at 60. About right for a nice cruising gear with that engine in that truck.

Back in the day I had good luck buying used US Forestry vehicles. Looks like a nice truck but I'm not sure I would call a 1990 a late model.

What is he asking for it?
 
You can probably find a chevy with a 5.7 stick newer than that 5 speed, and lower models. Or you can pick up a truck like mine and drop a 350 in it, hehe.

I would pay no more than 750 for that truck above, its old, has alot of miles and is only a 4 speed.

I dont care about that and it's going to get much better mpg than my currant truck. Plus with F.I. it will start when it's cold.

I don't want a Chevy with it's tie rod and idler arm eating independant front suspension. I prefer the old cast iron 4 speed vs the light duty later model transmissions.

The miles do concern me. I pulled the oil fill cap off and it's clean as a new truck even though the outside of the engine is a grease ball.

lol really?..mine lasted to only 200,000 before i needed to replace anything! and then they were questionable probably could have gone longer.

and the ride on a GM is a whole lot better then that old school solid stiff front end but anyway good luck with the ol girl don't stray too far from gas stations..lol

Well, every year it depreciates a little more. If he has been offered $2,600 but he is holding it for you, and if you think (to you) it is worth $2,600, buy it.
 
It depends on if you want to be fair or get a wicked deal. I put it around $1300.

Dodge really upped the HP with the magnum motors in 1992-ish which you just missed.

How come the tires are sticking way out? Less-offset rims maybe? If there's some trick suspension stuff you could ebay the parts and restore it to stock for profit.
