+1. I've never understood Beatles mania. They were good, but so were a lot of other bands.
 
Early Beatles don't do much for me either, but as early as Rubber Soul on, Sgt Pepper, MMT, White Album, Abbey Road etc....there are some real musical gems. Something changed...some magic, maybe drugs, maybe that 1:1,000,000,000 musical chemistry thing.....

You cannot deny the effect of the Beatles on pop culture.
 
The Beatles are neither under-rated nor over-rated. They fit perfectly into the popular culture niche that they've been placed. Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison were all musical geniuses in their own right. When they all got together and were able to make music without egos getting in the way, they really had something.
 
As soon as they amped up the hallucinogens and opened their relationships their music became quite ground breaking. IMHO "A day in the life" was a true breakthrough.
 
I am thinking about it now as I am approaching 48 in about a week. I used to think they were overrated. I now feel they deserve their spot in history.
I sing a mean Paul McCartney though, so I guess I am biased. Can't do Lennon very well unless I trash my voice.

I think whether you do or don't think they are overrated depends on your age.
 
They probably hear advertising lyrics like Mad Magazine once did:

Chevrolet,
Though they break down and get towed away,
Buy one 'cause they're made in USA

Oh I believe,
In Chevrolet.

Suddenly,
It's not half the car it used to be,
Repair bills are hanging over me,
My Chevrolet, died suddenly.

Why it doesn't go I don't know,
It doesn't run.

I'll have to buy another one from Chevrolet....

Best band ever. Sad that they never played together one last time. Like the Eagles, second best band ever.

Its a matter of opinion but, I too think the Eagles are great. Gonna be 39 in 2 months and I grew up in a household that always had eagles albums playing when I got home from school. They shaped my views on music and I love em to this day.
