I would have quoted him $5000 cash up front, no warranty, no refunds.

Some "customers" you are just better off not dealing with and sending off down the road. He was one of them.

Are you sure it wasn't El Chappo, the escaped Mexican cartel lord? You better be careful gringo.

One thing that any small business needs to learn, and sometimes it's difficult, is what business not to take no matter what the price might be.

If it was me, I'd just laugh and walk back inside....

That is one seriously ridiculous looking car. People in my area like to go overboard on the chrome and the big wheels but I can't honestly say I have ever seen a completely chrome car like that before. Wonder how impressed the ladies are by his $2000 car with his $4000 wheels!

Rims are a little much for me, but that's a pretty cool look. Defiantly unique.

People scoffing at prices for auto repair shouldn't really be news here.

On a car like that if you monkey with the valve body so it "kicks down" instantly the guy will tell all his friends and you'll have more business than you know what to do with.

"It kicks down like lightnin'... vrooom..."

The tall gearing from his donk rims magnify whatever slop has been sitting around for 300 thousand cab miles before his SS Clone job. And I do think that silver "paint" is wrapping paper from Dollar Tree.

Some customers your better off not having.

I can just about 100% guarantee if you did do the job for this guy it would be a nightmare.

I'm sure that at least some of these idiots reacted the same way when a mechanic quoted them a timing belt job...

Around here it's the gigantic chrome wheels and silly rubber-band tires on cars that badly need body work or paint.

Hopefully it's just a ratty 9C1 with "dem deers" stuck on it. It is either a 9C1 or Impala SS though since it's got the notch in the rear windows.

I've encountered a few colorful donk owners before, but none quite like that. A coworker did have a guy flip out because GM original floor mats for his 1978 'Bu (Malibu) were discontinued.

Probably on probation.

^^^^^^^^^ This x 1,000,000

If you had actually done the work for him, with the 2 year warranty, then he would have kept driving like he has with the huge rims, taxing the transmission you built, and then 5 years down the road after he obliterated it again, he would have come back in and said "Yo, you told me this has a warranty, and it's broke! You have to fix it for me for free!"

.. that is, if he wasn't already in jail.

No thanks.

Oh yeah, and the appropriate reponse in this situation would have been "Well if it's too much, just sell those rims and you'll still have money left over after you've paid for the transmission."

The second best (second to seeing some doofus' ride on the side of the road) is when I they ride past in need of obvious repairs, be it rusted body panels, cracked windshields, major exhaust leaks (that is even funnier, because at first the awful noise is wrongly attributed to a [censored] cannon!) etc.

While at a local Autozone, I saw in the parking lot some moron trying to hammer on $50 (or however much they cost) faux chrome hubcaps onto his too-small steelies. Just while walking by I noticed a crack that spanned his entire windshield, a cracked open head light and other blemishes. I was so astonished by his apparent lack of reason that I almost stopped to ask him if he had any other mods he could show me.
