What oils did you use for carbeurated vehicles

Back in the day it was whatever was the cheapest 10W-30 or 40 with approximately 3K OCIs, but a lot of cars burned so much oil you would add several quarts during that period. Never had an engine failure and drove all over the place winter and summer. The biggest problems I remember were the oil consumption, difficult cold starts below zero, and storing an opened can of oil so it wouldn't tip over or get dirty.

My dad used Pennzoil 10w40 in his 68 valiant,70 and 74 beetles,78 Subaru and 76 Camaro.

My auto shop teacher was a stickler for 20w 50. I ran that in my 78 Toyota,70 elcamino,73 duster,76 ramcharger and 68 scout. I mostly ran Exxon or Valvoline oils but occasionally others like Castrol and havoline.

I had a 1971 Fiat 124 Spider and a 1977 VW Scirocco that both got Castrol GTX 20w-50. My 1979 Pontiac Lemans wagon got either Quaker State or Valvoline 10w-40 as I recall.

1986 Honda Civic I had for about 3 years with the 1.5L CVCC 4-cylinder.
Pennzoil 5W-30 and Pennzoil filters every 3k while I owned it from the Wal-Mart garage at the store I worked at, plus different oil treatments that caught my fancy.

My first car was a 72 Grand Prix with the 400c.i. paired with the 400 Turbo Trans 4barrell Quadrajet carb and factory duals. Had 73,xxx miles when my Father purchased it me for my 17 birthday. I used Exxon SuperFlow 10W30 and a OCOD. Would run 3000 mile OCIs.

The owners manuals back then recommended motor oil based on on ambient temperature. Probably 10w40 in southern climates and 10w30 in northern climates. Also, it was common to throw a can of honey-like STP into the engine when summer came.

Havoline 10w40 year round in all the family cars that I changed the oil in (mainly GMs but an occasional Ford or Chrysler here and there), and I followed a 2 month/2000 mile OCI. For filters I used either Pennzoil branded filters or STP Double Oil Filters (I used to buy them by the case).

Hello again. For you folks that drove carbeurated vehicles back in the day; what grade of motor oils did you folks use and what was your OCI length? Dad and I talked and he used Kendall 10w30 conventional back in the day with AC DELCO filters for 3k max
Quaker State Super Blend 10w-30 with Fram filter every 3,000 miles. 1965 Oldsmobile 425 ci. I knew a guy with a 1965 Chevy 283 who ran only Havoline SAE 10 year-round. He felt the SAE 10 got into all the nooks and crannies better.
